Ted Cruz Solidifies Christian Conservative Vote: Endorsed By More Than 200 Faith Leaders

Texas Senator Ted Cruz isn't only surging in the polls, he's also rolling out one endorsement after another. Earlier this week, both Rep. Steve King (Iowa) and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (California) announced support for his candidacy for president.

Late yesterday evening, the two congressmen were joined by more than 200 faith leaders:

Presidential candidate Ted Cruz today announced additions to his Faith Leadership Team which include more than 200 faith leaders from around the nation. This follows the campaign’s announcement yesterday of it’s National Prayer Team, led by Cruz Crew volunteers, dedicated to a focused season of prayer on behalf of the nation, Cruz, and his family and staff. The Cruz campaign says that the release of the 200+ names is "one in a series of releases announcing leaders of faith who support Ted Cruz for President." Although the faith leaders hail from many different states, Iowans are prominently featured among them. I counted 74 faith leaders from that state.

These endorsements confirm findings of recent polls saying that Cruz is surging among Republicans in general, and especially among "very conservative" and "evangelical" voters. The main reasons for that development are Ben Carson's foreign policy gaffes which are costing him dearly, and Cruz's own background as a solid Christian conservative.

Ted Cruz's father, Rafael, is a well-known pastor and has been campaigning for his son from day one. Clearly, the elder Cruz's efforts are starting to pay off.

I’d say its pretty likely that Bob Vander Plaats will endorse him in Iowa.

Probably so, after 4 years of Trump.

I think so too - and Steven Deace (an influential Iowa radio talker and conservative activist - agrees.

Trump will go back to being a Democrat before he’s elected President.

He's the real deal on this one. Trd Cruz that is. I feel and sense as a Christian that Donald Trump is somewhat faking it in this regard. Spiritually it is not my position to play God and judge the man's heart. But politically I can and will render an assessment and my intuition just strongly tells me it is rather new found and expedient for his immediate goals.

Trump will go back to being a Democrat before he’s elected President.

If he continued the same positions, he’d probably win a landslide there, too.

Steve Deace said last night on twitter that the Iowa caucus winner was sitting at the table in Iowa last night because 57% of Iowa caucus voters are evangelicals.

A while back Rush Limbaugh pointed to the disaster of Mitt Romney ignoring the evangelicals and rural conservatives and concentrating on the more urban moderates. It won him the nomination and he expected the base to come on board out of fear of the democrats. It cost him the election because fear isn’t what motivates us.

Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers” First Chief Justice John Jay letter to John Murray Jun. 12 Oct.1816 — good enough for him—ought be good enough for us today. The enemy foreign or domestic now residing int he White House is proof enough of the consequences should we neglect this duty again.

It’s not just the far left that’s scared to death of Cruz. “Moderate” Republicans are terrified by him, too. Conservatism threatens their cronyism rice bowl.

Reality dictates that Cruz is going to have to pull off some amazing magic act to get out of the single digit ditch he is in to win the primary. Both he and Trump are equally despised by the Republican organized crime mafiosos who must first be dealt with to be nominated. But, more so than Trump, Cruz has the liberal attack dogs to deal with in the national election who absolutely look at him as a modern day Dick Chaney. In my opinion, Cruz, unlike Trump, is unlikely to get a single liberal swing vote. The hard question for me is can he really win the national election?

Being identified as the “conservative Christian” candidate is electoral death.

I understand the people who are pushing this meme, but I believe they need to get out more.
