Donald Trump unleashes raging 12-tweet barrage, threatens lawsuit at 'irrelevant' rival

Politico reported earlier in the evening that a pro-Kasich super PAC was planning to unload $2.5 million or more to take down Trump, the Republican front-runner, in New Hampshire.

This prompted a dozen-tweet barrage by Trump against Kasich, ripping the PAC's attack as "pathetic" and calling the governor a "dud" over the report, among many other things.

*snip*

The super PAC, New Day for America, published a letter from The Trump Organization's lawyer warning that Trump would promptly seek "legal action" against the committee if its ads lied about Trump.

"It has come to my attention that you plan on producing and disseminating certain radio, television, and newspaper advertisements directly and personally attacking my client," Trump's lawyer, Alan Garten, wrote in the letter, which was also addressed to the Kasich campaign.

"Please be advised that in the event your ads contain any false, misleading, defamatory or otherwise tortious statements or representations concerning Mr. Trump's business or his brand, we will not hesitate to seek immediate legal action," it continued.

The letter concluded: "Please be guided accordingly."

The letter was similar in nature to a September cease-in-desist letter The Trump Organization sent to a conservative group, the Club for Growth, that ran attack ads against Trump in Iowa. Some eyebrows were raised because the letter was sent from Trump's corporation rather than from his campaign.

Nonsense. Thin, thick have nothing to do with it. It has to do with the influence of propaganda. We learned this during the Bush years, how the “thick-skinned” Bush didn’t respond to lies and it not only destroyed his administration but gave rise to the horror in the White House now. You cannot allow any lies to stand.

Free speech doesn’t permit you to lie about people in public. It’s called slander and libel, and we have very good laws against that. In fact, mot Freepers bemoaned that Bush did NOTHING against the lies perpetrated by Harry Reid and the Dems for six years, which destroyed his administration. About time someone pushed back on this crap.

"The thing that is going to take Cruz down is YOUR mouth..."

Well, I don't think I have that much influence, but gee...

"Lordy bee, I’ve never see a person with so much vile..."

That would be "bile."

Why wouldn’t I be?

Cruz is by far the best candidate for the presidency. As a Cruz supporter, why would I want someone else to win?

I would think the up standing of your candidate Cruz would mean more than to bring him down in the gutter with YOUR mouth....what a shame Cruz will be going out with this type of supporter....

[I don’t know if it’s from cocaine but I can’t believe his twitching has not been more widely discussed. It makes me uncomfortable just watching him.]

I agree. between his pacing the stage and wild arm movements when he talks, there is clearly something wrong. And I don’t think it’s early Parkinson’s.... becuae in TV interviews he seems a tad more mellow.

Yeah, his supporters should be doormats, right?

But I agree that Cruz is unfailingly classy.

Yeah, I’m not really a fan of litigation being introduced into political campaigns.

Just thinking what a bunch of smarmy Clinton lawyers could do with that.

This is part of the crossover from business to politics, I think, and I believe it is a net plus for the country. Politics has descended into the gutter long ago, where misleading or lying ads (which are different animals) have been an accepted tactic, where the 'victim' tries to counter the ads solely with factual refutation, and never with appropriate legal remedy.

Think what such a warning might accomplish once the dems are staging the attacks - they do not fear shame, but they DO fear monetary loss, as well as power loss.

The one warning note in my brain on this is that Trump may signal having a thin skin - although having a thin skin about lies is much less a sin than being thin skinned about the truth (like the dems).

Those guys are just transplants from Scott Walker’s old FR fanbase that used to do this stuff before he dropped out.

Cruz is not going after Trump as they agreed last summer, but they want to do it for him more out of hate for Trump than support for Cruz.

Great thing. About time someone stood up to this kind of PAC bullying

A: you running a little low on your testosterone lately?

B: the irony of a Trumpanzee whining and crying about bullying is just too rich.

C: So, you agree that PACS are bad, giving all the control to Soros and the Jurassic media on the narrative. BRILLIANT move on your part......just effen brilliant.

D: you really think threatening legal action is a conservative thing to do? Wow, between that and your Citizens United position, you'll have your own show on MSNBC next week, and a column at Slate.

Given that the Clintons could easily be hung out to dry with their own recorded words - most in video - I’m not sure their lawyers could do much. Truth, at least theoretically, is still an absolute defense.
