Mrs. Eccl and I saw him in Greenville on Saturday. He had about 4000 very enthusiastic supporters there. He is the real deal. And his wife Heidi is the real deal. My fears of her (Goldman Sachs banker) were greatly allayed.

Cruz started at 2% in the polls against a very powerfully connected Lt. Governor Dewhurst. Cruz gained steadily in the polls as voters learned more about him, but everybody said Dewhurst was the "inevitable winner." The entire GOPe was supporting Dewhurst. One PPP poll showed Dewhurst over Cruz by +17 only one week before the primary election in May, 2012 but Cruz survived and forced a runoff election. Cruz crushed Dewhurst in the runoff by 14 points.
