My grandparents also came over in 1912, from England, and they had to have a sponsor to ensure they could provide for themselves. What a crazy concept, right? My mother came over from England in 1950 to visit my USAF father, and they married 2 months later. She became a citizen a few years after that. So they had immigrants I’m sure, but in special situations like refugees, marriage, etc., and definitely not as rampant as the years before 1924.
My great grandfather spent 4 years in St Catherines Ontario before he was allowed to even enter the USA.
Wow... Hidden history.. Thanks for sharing that. Everyone who has a document like this should post it.
“We had the Cuban refugees but that was not a huge amount of people.”
It was enough to double the violent crime rate in Miami, and quadruple the murder rate.
About 300,000 Cuban refugees have come to the US since 1959. Its a small number compared to 11-20 million Mexicans and Central Americans. And millions of Muslims. They truly were political refugees. They are not committing jihad in Miami.
You are correct. Most of the Cubans who have come here are good people. The only bad drop was when Castro emptied his prisons, and Carter took in all of them. (Mariel Boat Lift)
I was living in Miami during the Mariel boatlift. Castro opened the prisons and asylums and sent a lot of defective people to Florida. It was a problem for a few years. The worst of the crime was the drug runners. The Cocaine cowboys etc. It was rampant.
There was some gal who was a coke LORD in Miami, and she hired many of the Mariel scum as enforcers. Bood on the streets all the time. Thanks Jimmah!
