The EPA is Exploring Regulations on Backyard BBQs
Capitol Confidential ^ | 11/15/2015 | Jack Spencer

A resolution in the Michigan Senate sounds the alarm that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency could soon be meddling with how outdoor barbecue-loving Americans prepare their food. Senate Concurrent Resolution 14 expresses opposition to EPA efforts to acquire a study that could lead to regulations on outdoor grills and barbecues.

The EPA has commissioned a study intended, "To perform research and develop preventative technology that will reduce fine particulate emissions (PM2.5) from residential barbecues. This technology is intended to reduce air pollution as well as health hazards in Southern California, with potential for global application."

Sen. Phil Pavlov, R-St. Clair, and Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, are joint sponsors of the resolution.

“We want to prevent another absolutely absurd overreach by the EPA and keep them from getting into our backyards and shutting off our barbecues and grills,” Pavlov said.

Again, look at how backyard waste burning was eliminated from suburbia.

My Grandparents had a 55-gallon drum in her backyard, and she lived in a quintessential post-WWII suburban neighborhood. But even when I was little it wasn’t being used anymore due to banning.

Their argument is that you’re encroaching on your neighbors property because of the smoke and odor. And since you can’t control the direction or dispersal of said materials, they should be regulated to prevent the smell of BBQ pork ribs from offending your new Syrian Muslim neighbor.

Honestly, I don’t know how they could enforce this. Ban the sale of charcoal? Put some sort of catalytic device on new units that has some sort of flue to vent the smoke. It’s beyond absurd.

Same with wood stoves. I’m betting we will all have to have our butts fitted with catylitic converters when the get around to “controlling” human farts!

No BBQ for U , EPA!

We’re already there. Look at non compliance in NY and CT over their gun registration laws.

But with something like this enforcement can be done remotely and automatically. Think of how speed and stoplight cameras work. Apply the principle to a drone with an IR sensor and a GPS map for determining the address of offenders.

They’d be able to sweep a massive number of neighborhoods each and every weekend.

Well with the ISIS terrorists on a tear I’m not going to lose any sleep over the EPA. They will be out of business after Trump takes office anyway. :-)

“My neighbors like to breathe “

Does that mean your neighbors like to breathe so they will complain about barbecue smoke OR does that mean they better not complain if they want to keep breathing?

Inquiring minds want to know.

In the title of the document it specifies "Technology for the Reduction of Particulate Matter Emissions for Residential Propane BBQs.

So they are looking to ban Propane grills, or put some sort of catalyst on them. I would suspect that in order to extend this to charcoal, they will outright ban it.

EPA BBQ police collecting evidence.

Some of them look like they've been eating the evidence.

When bureaucrats attempt to ban the caveman, you know it’s passed time to shut them down.

Will the price of a Blue Rhino propane tank refill now go to $50, or do they just want to shut them down?

After they outlaw forest fires and volcanoes, no doubt. You’ve got a bunch of people just trying to justify their own existence.
Mind you, we used to have incinerators in our backyards in Oz, now we just have massive landfills filled with stuff we used to burn.
Newspapers, cardboard boxes etc now go in the garbage. A little smoke never hurt anyone.
Bushfires were not anywhere near as dangerous when burning off was practiced.
These little hitlers need to be bbq’d alive.

In that specific case..they win.

The EPA can only regulate “interstate business”.
States can regulate ^business^ within its borders.

No one can regulate individual property-owner rights with out a violation of the 4th Amendment...

Regardless of what thew State Administrative Code provides.

Problem is...it will take $$$ to fight the deployment of a SWAT team.

With the local burn ban over, I will light a tire tonight in the true spirit of co-operation with Dear Leader and his henchmen the EPA.

You beat me. I was gonna say......just look at California and their ‘no burn day’ regs that get longer and longer each winter. Very few burn days now. Everyone just followed like a bunch of sheep and now if I actually smell a fireplace burning in my neighborhood it shocks me.

You Texans are crazy, but I love it!!

Several years ago I went on a Harley trip that took me through Texas. I learned several things while in Texas.

- Texas isn’t just big, it’s DAMN BIG.

- If a Texan decides he likes you, they are the most hospitable people in this country.

- Texans are very proud of their BBQ food.... argue with them over that and they might just shoot you.

- Their freeway rest areas are not just restrooms, they are nearly Palaces.

- If you’re only doing 80mph on the freeway, you can’t stay up with the cops.

We absolutely loved Texas and the great folks we met. That BBQ sure fits Texas. ;>)
