Russia Pounds ISIS With Biggest Bomber Raid in Decades
Daily Beast ^ | November 18, 2015 | David Axe

The Russian air force just pulled off one of the biggest and most complex heavy bomber missions in modern history—sending no fewer than 25 Backfire, Bear, and Blackjack bombers on a coordinated, long-range air raid against alleged ISIS forces in Syria.

The Tuesday mission, which launched under the cover of darkness from a base in Ossetia in southern Russia, signaled a significant escalation of Moscow’s air war in Syria—and heralded the rebirth of Russian heavy bomber squadrons that once had withered from a lack of funding.

“PUTIN .... bombs truck convoys, raqqa HQ, isis movements, oil facilities”

The fact that we have been there for a year not doing these things tells you something doesn’t it?

They are not attacking ISIS, they are attacking the Free Syrian Army, who are US allies.

Another propaganda lie.

“If they’re flying from Ossetia, then they’re flying over Turkish air space to get to Syria. Wonder if Putin asked first...”

They were reported to have used Iranian and Iraqi airspace, which is doable, without Turkish overflight.

That may be cover for the Turks - and therefor NATO, including the US (who has fighters in Turkey, capable of interdicting bombers), if they have agreed to sell out their former “moderate rebels” to be killed. The West does seem to have dropped those Rebel groups like a hot potatoe, withdrawing their trainers, and re-assigning them to groups in the East

The deal may be that the Russians have to refrain from real efforts to destroy ISIS, until they can exfiltrate their important assets to their stronghold of Mosul across the border.

The Russians have a carrot and stick approach in the West, inviting rebels to come back to the side of Assad, which will probably start happening to some degree.

If they get away with introducing their bombers with some relatively light cruise missile attacks, then the camel’s nose is under the tent for heavy bomb loads later.

Saying the Free Syrian Army is a US ally is a lie. Where do you think ISIS started?

Obama now has to figure out what he can do to get some handclaps and not let Putin upstage him. (That’s what the killing of Jihad John was all about - US knew his whereabouts but only bumped him off when they became concerned that Putin would do it first and get the credit.)

We may have superior aircraft BUT whenever our pilots see a target in Syria, they are under orders to ask permission to fire. Our men on the ground and in the air have their hands tied behind their backs by the muslim living in OUR whitehouse.

Whether they are or they are not is not important, what is important is that they ostensibly our allies and Putin is bombing them, thereby humiliating the US on the world stage and making us weaker.

As long as Ofail is in office we will have poor choices on a daily basis. Befriending the Syrian rebels was a ridiculous mistake. At this point I’m fine with Russia doing the job. Putin does not want ISIS in his country and IMO Assad is a known quantity. I would much rather deal with him that a bunch of rebels who will usher in the Muslim Brotherhood and the Mullahs.

The Russians have an airliner based on the Bear Bomber. Probably all out of service now, made in the 1950’s or 1960’s.
