PARIS - A massive police raid Wednesdays killed the suspected ringleader of the Paris attacks during a blitz-style sweep, two senior European intelligence officials said, after investigators followed leads that the fugitive militant was holed up north of the French capital and could be plotting another wave of violence.
More than 100 police and soldiers stormed the building during a seven-hour siege that left two dead including the suspected overseer of the Paris bloodshed, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who had once boasted he could slip easily between Europe and the Islamic State strongholds in Syria.

A gift to civilization that he is gone but it is almost meaningless because he is just one small pimple on the ass of time in the larger context of ISIS and their goals.
ISIS is about ideology, not conquest and control of territory. It is also about control of populations, but again about geographic boundaries.
ISIS is going back to the historic goals of Islam which is conquest of peoples to spread the faith by force and the elimination of infidels and their political power structures.
The west holds ideological and moral concepts that are and have always been foreign to true Islamists. Their moral precepts have a completely different basis than ours and trying to understand them based on our values and the concepts of what is rational to us is a grave error. For them, their actions and concepts ARE rational based on their religious and traditional ideals.
We will, unfortunately, have to suspend our ideas of a just war, and limiting collateral damage and come down to their level of waging battles. There will be no victory in the traditional sense. There will only, at best, be containment and diminishing of their current capabilities. The establishment of a world Islamic caliphate has come and gone numerous times for the last 1400 years. The difference now is that technology has enabled them to extend their efforts to the entire world. Putting them back in the bottle will be much more difficult and much more destructive to the innocent populations they have managed to control through force.
