Governor: Hawaii would welcome Syrian refugees

Hawaii Gov. David Ige says the state would welcome refugees from Syria with aloha.

Ige said in a statement Monday that Hawaii and the U.S. have a long history of welcoming refugees affected by war and oppression.

Ige spokeswoman Jodi Leong says it's too early to speculate on how many may come to Hawaii as the governor hasn't been contacted by President Barack Obama or his administration.

The governor says "Hawaii is the Aloha State, known for its tradition of welcoming all people with tolerance and mutual respect."

Ige says safety is his first priority. He says the U.S. accepts refugees only after conducting the highest level of screening and security checks.

Ige says Hawaii would work with the federal government to ensure the state has the resources to help refugees.

Hawaii is one of only seven states whose governors have said they would accept Syrian refugees following the terror attacks in Paris on Nov. 13.

Governor David Ige’s Statement on Syrian refugees http://governor.hawaii.gov/newsroom/governor-david-iges-statement-on-syrian-refugees/

Our first priority is the safety of the American people, including the people of the State of Hawai‘i.

The U.S. accepts refugees, including Syrians, only after they are subjected to the most vigorous and highest level of screening and security vetting.

As President Obama has said – slamming the door in their face would be a betrayal of our values. Hawai‘i and our nation have a long history of welcoming refugees impacted by war and oppression. Hawai‘i is the Aloha State, known for its tradition of welcoming all people with tolerance and mutual respect. I am confident that our state will work closely with the federal government to ensure that appropriate resources and support are available before any refugees arrive in Hawai‘i.

— Hawai‘i Governor David Ige

I like that plan. The least we can do for the state that gave us Dumbama is to give them several hundred thousand murderous Islamic nut jobs.

OK, then send all the Syrian refugees to Hawaii...every last one...at least they’ll be contained to a cluster of islands...it would be tough for them to go elsewhere in the USA...so, thanks, Hawaii, for taking one for the team!

Hawaii’s been complaining about their homeless for years, so it looks like they have that problem solved since they want more.

Brillant. An island is a perfect place to be trapped with questionable people.

Send them all there, then we can release them from statehood. Good riddance. They are the only state with more liberals than Conservatives.

I agree, with one added proviso: They cannot travel to the mainland US or Alaska; they are, however, free to return to Krapistan.

Obama will not send the Syrian refugees (hidden Terrorist) to his own State! Look at the map and see how many were sent to DC, that’s right none!
