The gift from the Queen was constructed of wood from the sister ship of HMS Resolute. The desk that most Presidents have in the Oval Office is constructed from timbers from HMS Resolute, and is called “The Resolute Desk”.
And, before anyone posts pictures here, I’ll point out that several Presidents have had pictures of them with their feet up on the Resolute Desk. Not just Obama.
