I watched a number of man-on-the-street interviews in Paris over the past few days. In many, many of them, the person spoke of being able to comprehend why Charlie Hebdo was attacked (though all also condemned it), but each one also was entirely bewildered why jihadis would attack people at random on the streets of Paris. I suspect the French press is much like the American media and unless the average Parisian goes in search of something beyond the official line, they believe Islam is The Religion of Peace. To people so misinformed, this attack will turn their world upside down.

Yup, revolvers. Specifically .357 Magnum that they use for close quarters battle. The thing is, the GIGN is considered one of the finest handgun combatants in the world, and while their handgun selection is usually Glocks many still carry the .357 Magnum revolver as a secondary handgun. In CQB that revolver is absolutely something else, and with their skills the GIGN operative doesn't need to spray bullets in the way we see most cops doing. Which makes the revolver more than adequate.

The GIGN is basically the French version of DELTA, with the GIPN (the police sister unit) being their version of FBI HRT.

Both units are kick ass.
