PARIS â November is not January. That thought has been filtering through the statements of most French politicians and the news media, and most people seem to understand.
Unlike the response in January after attacks at the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and elsewhere left 17 dead, there were no grand public appeals for solidarity with Muslims after the Friday attacks that left 129 dead in Paris. There were no marches, few pleas not to confuse practitioners of Islam with those who preach jihad.
Instead, there was a palpable fear, even anger, as President François Hollande asked Parliament to extend a state of emergency and called for changing the Constitution to deal with terrorism. It was largely unspoken but nevertheless clear: Secular Francealways had a complicated relationship with its Muslim community, but now it was tipping toward outright distrust, even hostility.

After the events in Paris on 11/13, I will be adding
this to my posts for the next week. I'm certain our
turn is coming again soon. We stand united against
Islamic extremists.
Some music for reflection if the mood strikes you.

An honorable mention also goes out to Lassana Bathily , a Muslim immigrant from Mali.
Mr. Bathily sheltered customers at the Jewish Deli and helped police by providing info

Just think: a desire to preserve Western culture and values is now labelled “extreme right wing radicalism” and that idea scares the Times more than Islamic thugs who want to kill us.
Amazing.
Not dark enough probably.
Islam is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world.
It’s not a darker mood - it’s enlightenment.
Count on the NYTs to call light, darkness.
Gee. Why could that possibly be?
Ya think?
What took them so long?
Thank God!
I'd start sending people in, and if there's trouble I'd just bundle those folks up and send them back where they came from.
There's no reason for the West to put up with this.

Thank you for the post.
Now if only a similar enlightenment would strike Obama & Co.
You mean a more realistic mood towards Islam.
We're not really united. Half of us can't bring themselves to name the enemy let alone fight the enemy..
These same idiots could say “a darker mood re: Japan after Peayl Harbor.””
All the French needs to do is to find the will to send in GIGN. They're bad @$$es.
Black is black.
