'France is at war': Hollande urges US-Russian coalition, changes to constitution

French president seeks to extend state of emergency for three months, plans to step up strikes in Syria, says he will meet Obama and Putin to discuss anti-IS alliance.

Addressing both houses of parliament on Monday, French President Francois Hollande announced a number of measures he hopes to pass in order to aggressively tackle the Islamic State terror group in the wake of Friday's coordinated attacks in Paris that left at least 129 dead and 350 wounded. The president also argued that France should unite with the US and Russia in a grand coalition dedicated to smashing IS.

Hollande said he wanted French law to allow dual nationals to be stripped of their French citizenship if they were convicted of terrorism and dual nationals to be banned from entering France if they presented a "terrorism risk".

For some reason these French Socialist presidents seem more capable of seeing reason when reality smacks them in the face than their American counterparts. Mitterand did several about faces back in the early 80’s and became a better ally for us than either of the Gaullist (conservative) presidents who were in office before and after him. Merkel leads the supposedly conservative party in Germany but refuses to remove her kopf from her arsch over the “refugees”.

That is what he did after Charlie Hebdo. This is bigger, and the political shift is even bigger, than before. He will have to make some bigger moves to cover his butt on this.

A lot will depend on public opinion. If it blows over, he reverts to form - pandering to his muslim constituency and foreign donors. But after Charlie Hebdo, there has been a growing drift rightward in the public. There just may not be a politically safe time for him to ease up. He is going to need some scalps to show.

Oui! I posit that the smart French today realize that the USA under Obama is not going to save anyone — not even the USA. This being the case, they have to protect themselves. When it comes to the USA, because We Are the World, there probably is a buffer of about fifty years before the worldwide Caliphate takes over the last free place on earth: the USA. Therefore, Obama, who will be gone before this happens and who probably believes (reasonably) that his own offspring will protected by the Muzzies, doesn't give a damn what happens.

Hard to believe that after Hebdo, he would accept more moslum refugees. Of course odumbi did the same thing here after all the “death to America”.
