Ted Cruz's Pro-American Immigration Reform Plan Show He's Not Marco Rubio
Breitbart ^ | 11-16-2015 | Julia Hahn

Posted on 11/16/2015 4:05:30 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% drew his sharpest distinction yet with donor-class favorite Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)80% last Friday by releasing an in-depth, pro-American immigration plan.

The new plan helps Cruz counter what he says is Rubio’s “blazingly, on-its-face false” argument that both Senators share similar positions on immigration.

Last week, Cruz attacked Rubio for joining Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama in fighting “tooth and nail to try to jam… amnesty down the throats of the American people.” Following the criticism, Rubio told reporters that Cruz “proposed legalizing people that were here illegally. He proposed giving them work permits. He’s also supported a massive expansion of the green cards. He supported a massive expansion of the H-1B program… so, if you look at it, I don’t think our positions are dramatically different.”

Greg Sargent of The Washington Post mocked Rubio’s response on Twitter, writing, “Marco Rubio to conservatives: Ted Cruz is every bit as soft on ‘amnesty’ as I am, so there!!!” Sargent described Rubio’s argument as a clear attempt to “distract from Cruz’s attack on [Rubio for] his support for Schum-o-bamnesty.”

“In painting Cruz as a supporter of legal status for undocumented immigrants, ‘the Rubio campaign is spinning,’ said Mark Krikorian, an immigration activist who was working to scuttle the 2013 bill,” reported Bloomerg. When Rubio says that Cruz “proposed giving [illegal immigrants] work permits” he is actually spinning a 2013 amendment from Cruz to give work-permits — instead of a legal route to citizenship — to illegal immigrants.

Only change for Cruz is his H1b stance, and his new stance against it.

Damn right about that!

Ted actually has a DETAILED plan and not just sound-bites.

Ted's plan covers ALL of the bases!

Ted's plan is BETTER!

No, he's a committed constitutional conservative first, and then an elected Senator from Texas.

What has Ted derailed? the H1B bill he supported?

Ted is a politician, and he needs to remember that...

Trump is NOT a politician and Trump has 4 plans up for looking at, how many has Ted got?

Hummm better do some more homework on Ted...you might see that he needs to do a lot better before the people vote for him...

So Rubio’s patently false argument is, “We’re both stupid and acting against the wishes of our constituents”? Not a terribly effective debating tactic...

Go for Ted saying what he did about Rubio, but he still has the H1B behind him....

Yes, and Trump still has saying that Romney and the GOP were being too hard on illegal immigration in the last election behind him. And your point is what? That people have held different positions in the past? Or are you trying to say that Cruz's past immigration position makes him unacceptable, but Trump's much more liberal past position on immigration doesn't?

What has Ted derailed? the H1B bill he supported?

He helped derail the Gang of 8 bill that was headed for passage. By forcing the Senate to vote on his amendments, he was able to demonstrate that the true goal of the bill was getting citizenship for the illegals, not mere legalization and certainly not securing the border. That helped turn the tide against the bill in the House.

I’d like to see someone break down the points of Cruz’ plan vs Trump plan. It looks like Cruz copied most of Trump’s points, added a lot more government involvement and thousands more words.

Trump’s plan is clear and consise. Ted’s, not so much. I haven’t had my second cup of coffee yet so I’ll have to read it again later.

Here is what Cruz said about the “Gang of Eight Amnesty” and his support for work permits:

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso.

In other words, he supported “legalization” of the 12 million illegals, but not citizenship.

Here's the link:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/13/us/cruz-tries-to-claim-the-middle-ground-on-immigration.html?_r=1

I will almost certainly vote for Cruz.

But on the issue of LEGAL immigration, he is a liar, and he will betray us, just like every other national Republican leader has betrayed us on LEGAL immigration.

Cruz has no passion for this issue, no focus, and a complete lack of personal and philosophical conviction on this issue.

There will be no reduction in LEGAL immigration during Cruz's first term, and there will be no reduction in the number of new citizens.

If by some miracle Cruz gets elected president in 2016, he will lose in 2020, because he will lose Texas in 2020, just like Ronald Reagan would lose California in 2020...

Because they both avidly supported a completely insane immigration policy that imported tens of millions of foreign Socialist voters into America!

G ood observation

Cruz has been promoting more H-1B's through his career. Suddenly he has had a revelation that Americans are being forced to train their replacements or forgo severance.

This has been going on since the mid 1990"s. It took two decades to admit this !.. Sounds like he's trying to compete with Trump. I'd bet if Trump quit Cruz would be right back supporting an increase in H-1B's because 'they create jobs for Americans'.

Remember when Tancredo ran. All the R's were for closing the border abd self deportation of illegals until Tancredo ran out of money and withdrew.

Politicians ... ugh

I do believe he is trying to compete with Trump and therefore is beginning to parrot Trump’s positions. The problem is he uses a whole lot of words and is less concise so people think he is saying the same thing. So far, it doesn’t really look like it.

This is a sort of side by side.

Immigration Reform That Will Make America Great Again Aug. 16, 2005

The three core principles of Donald J. Trump’s immigration plan

When politicians talk about “immigration reform” they mean: amnesty, cheap labor and open borders. The Schumer-Rubio immigration bill was nothing more than a giveaway to the corporate patrons who run both parties.
Real immigration reform puts the needs of working people first - not wealthy globetrotting donors. We are the only country in the world whose immigration system puts the needs of other nations ahead of our own. That must change. Here are the three core principles of real immigration reform:
***********************************
HIGHLIGHTS Nov. 13, 2005

“It’s not that we don’t know how to solve illegal immigration. What is missing is the political will to get it done. And, as president, I will get it done. We will secure the borders.” - Ted Cruz
***************************************
TRUMP-
1. A nation without borders is not a nation. There must be a wall across the southern border.
2. A nation without laws is not a nation. Laws passed in accordance with our Constitutional system of government must be enforced.
3. A nation that does not serve its own citizens is not a nation. Any immigration plan must improve jobs, wages and security for all Americans.
*****************
CRUZ
We need a President who will follow the law, hold those who break it accountable, and take seriously the duty to protect Americans. To restore the Rule of Law, a Cruz Administration will:
End President Obama’s illegal amnesty. President Obama has issued over 20 illegal executive memoranda rewarding illegality. I will rescind each and every one on my first day in office.
Increase deportations and end catch-and-release. Our laws are not being enforced. I will restore our commitment to enforcement, public safety, and the Rule of Law by rededicating DHS to fully enforcing the law, including through deportations and returns.
End sanctuary policies, sign Kate’s Law, and deport criminal immigrants. There are about 340 sanctuary jurisdictions in the United States. They make a mockery of our laws and endanger our citizens. I will end support for these jurisdictions.
Prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving financial benefits and strengthen E-Verify. American taxpayers should not be funding benefits for those who are here illegally, and American jobs should not go to those who are here illegally. I will protect Americans’ wellbeing by stopping the flow of taxpayer dollars and instituting a strong e-verify system.
*********************
TRUMP
Defend The Laws And Constitution Of The United States
America will only be great as long as America remains a nation of laws that lives according to the Constitution. No one is above the law. The following steps will return to the American people the safety of their laws, which politicians have stolen from them:

Triple the number of ICE officers. As the President of the ICE Officers’ Council explained in Congressional testimony: “Only approximately 5,000 officers and agents within ICE perform the lion’s share of ICE’s immigration mission…Compare that to the Los Angeles Police Department at approximately 10,000 officers. Approximately 5,000 officers in ICE cover 50 states, Puerto Rico and Guam, and are attempting to enforce immigration law against 11 million illegal aliens already in the interior of the United States. Since 9-11, the U.S. Border Patrol has tripled in size, while ICE’s immigration enforcement arm, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), has remained at relatively the same size.” This will be funded by accepting the recommendation of the Inspector General for Tax Administration and eliminating tax credit payments to illegal immigrants.
***********************
CRUZ
Triple the number of Border Patrol agents. Securing the border is the federal government”s obligation. I will dedicate the force necessary to do that.
***********************************
TRUMP
1. A nation without borders is not a nation. There must be a wall across the southern border.
****************
CRUZ
Build a wall that works. The unsecured border with Mexico invites illegal immigrants, criminals, and terrorists to tread on American soil. I will complete the wall.
Increase vital aerial surveillance and other technology along the border. Adding boots on the ground is not enough. Eyes in the sky and other equipment are necessary to find and detain all illegal entrants.
****************************
TRUMP
Nationwide e-verify. This simple measure will protect jobs for unemployed Americans.
**************************
CRUZ
Prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving financial benefits and strengthen E-Verify. American taxpayers should not be funding benefits for those who are here illegally, and American jobs should not go to those who are here illegally. I will protect Americans’ wellbeing by stopping the flow of taxpayer dollars and instituting a strong e-verify system.
**********************************
TRUMP
Mandatory return of all criminal aliens. The Obama Administration has released 76,000 aliens from its custody with criminal convictions since 2013 alone. All criminal aliens must be returned to their home countries, a process which can be aided by canceling any visas to foreign countries which will not accept their own criminals, and making it a separate and additional crime to commit an offense while here illegally.

Detention-not catch-and-release. Illegal aliens apprehended crossing the border must be detained until they are sent home, no more catch-and-release.
********************
CRUZ
Increase deportations and end catch-and-release. Our laws are not being enforced. I will restore our commitment to enforcement, public safety, and the Rule of Law by rededicating DHS to fully enforcing the law, including through deportations and returns.
**************************
TRUMP
Defund sanctuary cities. Cut-off federal grants to any city which refuses to cooperate with federal law enforcement.
****************************
CRUZ
End sanctuary policies, sign Kate’s Law, and deport criminal immigrants. There are about 340 sanctuary jurisdictions in the United States. They make a mockery of our laws and endanger our citizens. I will end support for these jurisdictions.
*************************
TRUMP
Enhanced penalties for overstaying a visa. Millions of people come to the United States on temporary visas but refuse to leave, without consequence. This is a threat to national security. Individuals who refuse to leave at the time their visa expires should be subject to criminal penalties; this will also help give local jurisdictions the power to hold visa overstays until federal authorities arrive. Completion of a visa tracking system – required by law but blocked by lobbyists – will be necessary as well.
***************************
CRUZ
Finish the biometric tracking system at our nation’s ports of entry. It is disgraceful that our federal government cannot keep track of those who enter the country. I will complete a biometric entry-exit tracking system.
***************************
TRUMP
End birthright citizenship. This remains the biggest magnet for illegal immigration. By a 2:1 margin, voters say it’s the wrong policy, including Harry Reid who said “no sane country” would give automatic citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants.
******************************
CRUZ
End birthright citizenship. Birthright citizenship was not intended to legalize the children of people who are breaking the law by entering and staying in the country illegally. I will take steps to pass legislation or a constitutional amendment to end it.
**********************************
TRUMP
Increase prevailing wage for H-1Bs. We graduate two times more Americans with STEM degrees each year than find STEM jobs, yet as much as two-thirds of entry-level hiring for IT jobs is accomplished through the H-1B program. More than half of H-1B visas are issued for the program’s lowest allowable wage level, and more than eighty percent for its bottom two. Raising the prevailing wage paid to H-1Bs will force companies to give these coveted entry-level jobs to the existing domestic pool of unemployed native and immigrant workers in the U.S., instead of flying in cheaper workers from overseas. This will improve the number of black, Hispanic and female workers in Silicon Valley who have been passed over in favor of the H-1B program. Mark Zuckerberg’s personal Senator, Marco Rubio, has a bill to triple H-1Bs that would decimate women and minorities.
Requirement to hire American workers first. Too many visas, like the H-1B, have no such requirement. In the year 2015, with 92 million Americans outside the workforce and incomes collapsing, we need companies to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed. Petitions for workers should be mailed to the unemployment office, not USCIS.
**********************
CRUZ
Suspend the issuance of all H-1B visas for 180 days to complete a comprehensive investigation and audit of pervasive allegations of abuse of the program. New allegations detail appalling abuses of the H-1B visa program – a program meant to create American jobs and spur economic growth. I will suspend the program for 180 days to investigate abuses.
***************************
TRUMP
End welfare abuse. Applicants for entry to the United States should be required to certify that they can pay for their own housing, healthcare and other needs before coming to the U.S.
*********************
CRUZ
Enforce the public-charge doctrine. Current law requires legal immigrants to certify that they will be economically self-sufficient. A Cruz Administration will ensure they do not receive government assistance, which defies the law and harms American taxpayers.
************************
TRUMP
Jobs program for inner city youth. The J-1 visa jobs program for foreign youth will be terminated and replaced with a resume bank for inner city youth provided to all corporate subscribers to the J-1 visa program.

Refugee program for American children. Increase standards for the admission of refugees and asylum-seekers to crack down on abuses. Use the monies saved on expensive refugee programs to help place American children without parents in safer homes and communities, and to improve community safety in high crime neighborhoods in the United States.
Immigration moderation.

Before any new green cards are issued to foreign workers abroad, there will be a pause where employers will have to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed immigrant and native workers. This will help reverse women’s plummeting workplace participation rate, grow wages, and allow record immigration levels to subside to more moderate historical averages.
***************************
CRUZ
Halt any increases in legal immigration so long as American unemployment remains unacceptably high. The purpose of legal immigration should be to grow the economy, not to displace American workers. Under no circumstances should legal immigration levels be adjusted upwards so long as work-force participation rates remain below historical averages.

thanks.

I just read through this one item:

"Halt any increases in legal immigration so long as American unemployment remains unacceptably high. The purpose of legal immigration should be to grow the economy, not to displace American workers. Under no circumstances should legal immigration levels be adjusted upwards so long as work-force participation rates remain below historical averages.

Cruz is using the fuzzy metrics. What is unacceptably high? What are historical averages ?

His actually is saying keep the same numbers as now and don't increase the number unless fuzzy metrics are met.
