Yes, the CCCP was needed to defeat Hitler. True but all that aid permitted them to take over Eastern Europe and eventually build an A-Bomb. America was naive in 1944, now under President Ovomit, it's the same lousy poker hand all over again and this time, by choice!

The difference being that Europe does not need America for this war. Putin can rally EU leaders (France especially now), and lead a multi-national invasion of the Middle East. Obama can sit it out (as yet another gift to his Muslim masters), and Putin can gain even more influence in the region afterwards. Bad for the US either way, just as the both want it.

Yes, the CCCP was needed to defeat Hitler. True but all that aid permitted them to take over Eastern Europe and eventually build an A-Bomb.

The Soviet perspective at that time was that they were entitled to seize Eastern Europe as compensation for their losses at the hands of Hitler (i.e. "spoils of war") and the U.S. and Britain should have done more to prevent that, no question about it. Nobody approved of the effective annexing of Eastern Europe, but we know why it happened.

I contend however, that Lend Lease to the Soviets had little if anything to do with their acquiring their first atomic bomb in 1949, they achieved that with a combination of espionage into the Manhattan Project combined with their own nuclear research (much of it based on ours).

It is my understanding that when President Truman informed Stalin at Potsdam in July 1945 that the U.S. possessed a "a new weapon of unusual destructive force.", Stalin appeared indifferent, and we learned later that was because he already knew about the atomic bomb.

Nevertheless, Russia is today a force to be reckoned with and if it is possible to work cooperatively with them without compromising our own values, we should do so, and if we have a mutual goal of wiping out Islamic terrorism, all the more reason.
