Thanks for the link! Carson is not at the top of my list, but he had this one right, and the article is from back in October.

Carson didn’t have anything right. The Chinese Navy vessels had nothing to do with Syria. The Chinese have been sending their vessels on goodwill visits for years now into the Mediterranean and beyond. This is a regular deployment for their piracy task forces when they are relieved in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea.

These Chinese vessel have over the years visited the Black Sea and even into the Baltic after transiting the Suez Canal. They have absolutely nothing to do with Syria and have not docked in Tartus. Remember the ridiculous claim at the time of the Chinese aircraft carrier being in Tartus? It was ridiculous as US Navy Officers were on board the carrier in Chinese waters.

21st October 2015

BEIJING — China hosted a visit this week to its sole aircraft carrier by senior U.S. Navy officers amid tensions over reported plans by Washington to challenge Beijing’s territorial claims in the South China Sea.

The delegation of 27 commanders and captains boarded the Liaoning on Monday and held discussions on “exercise management, personnel training, medical protection and strategies in carrier development,” the Chinese navy said on its official microblog.

Carson and his military analysts are just cherry picking from the Sean O’Conner imagery assessment. They failed to understand the following contained in the report. How could they miss it as it is right at the start!

“The radars are present in imagery dating as far back as 2009. Given that the current crisis in Syria developed in late 2011, the new identification of Chinese military equipment does not represent overt Chinese support of the Assad regime. While China does not support Western initiatives regarding the crisis, it is imperative to note that the 2009 or earlier delivery timeline predates the situation and is indicative only of an import-export relation between the two states.”

Did Carson realise that Chinese radar had been in Syria before the civil war? The history of that goes back to when Russia was desperate to get Israeli UAV technology direct from Israel and were in discussions since 2007. The caveat was that Israel would honour the deals if Syria wasn’t supplied with advanced Russian air defence equipment and radars. Russia desperately needed those Israeli UAVs so Syria went looking on the market and sourced its radars from China. Absolutely nothing unusual in that. Iran did the same.

“Israel Aerospace Industries signed a $400 million agreement to sell unmanned aerial vehicles to Russia, it announced on Wednesday. Russian arms maker OPK Oboronprom will buy the UAVs over a period of three years.
