The University of Missouri took a major step toward healing Thursday, naming a retired black law professor and chancellor emeritus as the schoolâs new interim president.
Michael Middleton, who earned his bachelor's and law degrees from the school, inherits a campus beset by racial strife. He takes over just days after a student hunger strike and a boycott by black members of the football team forced the resignation of then-president Tim Wolfe.
"We all must heighten our focus, improve our culture and share the responsibility to see our university advance in healthy ways built upon respect for others," Middleton said. "I am energized. We need to get our community together, working together."
Middleton , 68, said he had no interest "at the moment" in taking the job permanently.
"Mike Middleton is the best person to lead the system during this critical period of transition, with 30 years of leadership experience on the MU campus and past service as a civil rights attorney," Donald Cupps, chair of the Board of Curators said.

I’ve always understood that hiring someone on the basis of skin color was racist.
Guess I was wrong.
They must not have been able to get Holder for the job?.
The guy just retired from the public university teat.
If this is anything like MA, just the brief “interim” stint could really goose his pension a whole lot higher.
A cynic would say we found the answer to “why at Mizzou?” right here.
Of course not, he's probably already getting a huge pension for his previous university work and living very well. But, he can do this gig for a few months and probably get another six-figure pension added on top of his current one, so why not.
Michael Sam not available? He could appease both blacks and gays.

Huh ??

RE: Huh ??
Should read City of Baltimore, Maryland. Sorry.
Oh, he’s Black, well, hell yea....that’ll fix the problem!
Why? Because he is black. Period.
How long until they find him embezzling money from the U?
If this continues there will be a paradigm shift in education one they did not intend because parents actually love their children.
Any folks who send their kids to that zoo ought to have their heads examined.
RE: Any folks who send their kids to that zoo ought to have their heads examined.
Now that you mentioned it, the Mizzou fever has spread to other campuses including Ivy Leagues like Yale.
Which campus isn’t a zoo?
“past service as a civil rights attorney”
This token is a bottom feeder below both of those fields...
With Obama’s Seal of Approval
The solution to this problem and all others like it that are being instigated by this rabble is simple. Their financiers and benefactors should simply walk away and leave them to it. Nature and stupidity would soon take their due course just like they do in any circumstance where these idiots get their way. Whether it be a community, a city, or even a national government; it’s historically proven what happens. Let it. If it happens enough, perhaps even they will realize that they themselves are the problem.
I can’t imagine spending a dime of my resources to give my offspring the “opportunities” that these farcical institutions are making available. What a waste!
RE: Their financiers and benefactors should simply walk away and leave them to it.
Mizzou, where all these started is a STATE university funded mostly by tax payer money.
Unless the legislature does it, I don’t see how this will work.
I will no longer hire anyone from that university. It is not a serious institution.
All this naming or appointing new p.c. people will be like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The idiot students who’ve agitated for and caused these changes will still be the same idiots they were before they started this foolishness.
Where the heck is the National Guard, Kent State style, when we need them? < /sarc >
