Rep. Cynthia M. Lummis, a Republican who has represented the entire state of Wyoming in the House since 2008, said she will not seek re-election in 2016.
In a statement, Lummis, said that representing the state “is a great honor and a serious responsibility,” but, “after much thought,” she has decided not to seek a fifth term.
“I used my political capital in Washington to bring about reform and to represent the best interests of Wyoming. Now it is time for a new face to take on this important task for Wyoming,” she said.
The sole woman member of the House Freedom Caucus, Lummis praised the body’s election of Rep. Paul D. Ryan to be House Speaker.
“With the election of Paul Ryan to be Speaker of the House we have ushered in thoughtful, conservative leadership, restored member-driven policy-making to the legislative process and returned regular order that will bring sunshine to back rooms making government work better,” she said.
Sen. John Barasso, R-Wyo., said Lummis will be “greatly missed.”
“Wyoming will miss her energy and her fight,” he said. “The U.S. House of Representatives will miss one of the most decent, honest and irreplaceable voices for western principles and ideals in Congress today.
Wyoming’s at-large House seat is rated Safe Republican by the Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call. Rep. Greg Walden, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, said in a statement, “Congress will not be the same without her.”
Lummis is the 13th House member to retire without seeking another office this cycle. For a full list, see the Roll Call casualty list.
As ahs been noted here many times, honest people do not stay in that cesspool very long.
I am surprised she lasted four terms. She probably needs a very long hot shower.
also note that her husband died recently as a result of obamacare.
If she’s praising Ryan - she’ll need a long, hot shower AND a long-handled scrub brush!
I HOPE I’m wrong but, even as a Born and Bred Wisconsinite, I’m still not sure that Ryan is the answer...
“...also note that her husband died recently as a result of obamacare.”
Explain, Please.
Don’t have the details or a link at hand, but her husband was in the process of getting care for a heart issue and had to wait for a test. He never got the test that would have saved his life. This happened within the past two years, perhaps within the past year.

Sorry to hear about her husband, but on the political front do we have any WY citizens who know who’d be the best for conservatism to replace her??
ALL congress men should leave after 4 terms. Thats 8 years. Thats long enough
Yep. That would leave a bad taste in my mouth, too. Especially if she’s as strident of a Conservative - surrounded by RINOs who were complicit in his death.
I’d say screw it, too!
Just say no to carpetbagging RINO Liz Cheney, who reportedly is interested.
One announced candidate already, State Rep. Tim Stubson.
According to her financial disclosures, Congresswoman Lummis is worth upwards of $75 million. And she needed Obamacare to pay for her husband’s medical tests?
Not sure if any other insurance was available to them, but certainly they could have paid out of pocket.
I guess that congressmen and their staffs have to go through the Obamacare exchanges if they get their insurance from the government. But nothing prevents them from foregoing that coverage and getting it elsewhere. I believe Ted Cruz was getting his coverage through his wife's job until she took a leave of absence.
