My guess is yes and no.
Yes they make more than the philosophers yelling on the street corners.
But my guess is tenure college philosophers make a lot more than welders.
“But my guess is tenure college philosophers make a lot more than welders.”
Just further evidence of how screwed up our “values system” is today.
That we pay someone who “contemplates his navel” for a living more than someone who actually provides value to their fellowman is atrocious.
I work at a community college and the NEED for welders is in demand. Over the next 5 - 10 yrs. baby boomers retiring..workers will be needed to fill those type of jobs. The learning curve itself is long.
Welding has many aspects to it..underwater welding is a specialized field in itself.
Marco go it RIGHT
An experienced underwater welder working on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico earns way more than a tenured Philosophy prof and he earns every dime of it, unlike the Philosophy prof.
I don't doubt that tenured college philosophy professors do okay, but how many philosophy majors does it take to support the career of one philosophy professor? And what percentage of college philosophy majors end up earning a living by doing philosophy?
I betcha more welding course graduates earn wages by doing welding than philosophy majors do by doing philosophy! And I betcha a greater percentage of recent philosophy graduates live in their mom's basement than welders!
As Mel Brooks said: “Stand up philosophers? You mean stand up BS artists”
Not so. LOTS of $ to be made in the trades. One could starve to death on a professor’s salary.
