I don’t blame him for resigning his position. He was probably being threatened with his job for not giving in to the demands of students. He probably just decided to wash his hands of the whole thing.
Look for more of this to happen, and with greater frequency.

If it were me, I would have waited until after the exam and then flunked everyone to symbolize the flame of Ellis Wyatt.
He tried to stand up to the bullies, but what is an associate professor when compared to a football team. After all, a university is about sports, sex, drugs and alcohol, not education.
