Impassioned demonstrators took to the streets of Bay Area cities Tuesday for an all-day nationwide protest dubbed âFight for 15â by fast-food workers calling for higher wages
While low-income workers in cities across the country walked off their jobs to push for a $15-per-hour minimum wage, in San Francisco, outcries over skyrocketing housing prices eclipsed the wage issue.

Ignorance of economics has destroyed the country.
They came from Mexico to take jobs from the lowest wage workers (who were typically black Americans) by underbidding them.
Now they’re angry about the low wages?!
Prove to my boss I was worth that amount because I worked my tail off.
Money for nuttin and their MTVs. May robots take their jobs. Every last goul mouthed, self-entitled liberal. They get what they deserve for walking lockstep with the knee-jerk braindead among us....
Pardon my pun regarding Marie Antoinette:
I bet that these SEIU protesters are being paid LESS than $15 an hour.
I blame Republicans for accepting the premise and not educating people.
ok then, these restaurants won’t hire teens, college kids or anyone without a degree. Then they’ll increase prices. That hamburger will cost $18 and soda will cost $10.
My wife and I “dined” at a McDonalds today. The coffee tasted like tepid mildly flavored water, the sausage on the “big breakfast” was cold, the sausage muffin was lukewarm and tasteless, and the front worker could not give back change accurately. There are reason they are not paid $15.00 an hour.
It isn’t just ignorance of economics; it is the realization that working low-paying jobs lands you in the same ghettoes as people who don’t work at all (beyond stealing your property when you’re away at work).
It has become very clear that breeding for freebies is at least as lucrative as working a low-wage job; the problem is that unskilled people that want to get ahead are finding themselves in the same boat as those that couldn’t lift a finger to help themselves.
Most likely most businesses will automate wherever possible. For $5/hr, manual labor makes sense. Over $10/hr the businesses need to pursue other options.
The end game is mass unemployment. More Obamavilles. Restless poor/homeless demanding more welfare. These people are just pawns that the homegrown Marxists are using to collapse the Nation. And they are being enabled by the evil Media, a worthless Educational system, and the big Government politicians. A former Great Nation destroyed from within.
Well, they seem to want it really really bad, like homo marriage, guess we better give it to them. /s
These strikes died out quickly here in the NYC metro area a while back when primarily black & Hispanics had to get back behind the fryers to feed their own people; McDonald’s and similar chains are almost exclusively used their domain at this point (especially in cities). It shows in the commercials; such minority-laden commercials would have never been used in the past for fear of driving off white customers. Now they realize there is little point in reaching out to whites who have little use for their fast food (or soda, for another example).
I also see convenience store chains eating into their business (7-11 just started selling bratwursts in my area), as well as the hot meals-to-go sold in supermarkets.

They’re too stupid to figure that out.
My granddaughter goes to a fairly pricey college and needed a job on campus for spending money. She was hired as a lifeguard for a few hours a week-—at minimum wage. That was last year.
This year when she arrived she sought out a job that paid more. She found one.
That’s what her parents and grandparents did. Our minimum wage jobs were where we STARTED,not where we ended up.
.
It’s too bad most of them do not get media attention. The ones that do are the me2 Gopes, akna the me2 Dopes.
Yep, and good 'n hard.
Didn’t know it was GAY PRIDE DAY in S.F. The printer must have left it off the calendar.
Prices at fast food places are much too high. Today I got a takeout from a local medical building where they outsourced the cafeteria to an outfit that provides excellent and healthy sandwiches on good-tasting bread for between three and five bucks. Tasty chicken pieces in the chicken wrap. I also recommend the hot foods section of the supermarket.
In my area there just aren’t many jobs; there has been no recovery here, and we probably haven’t hit bottom yet (as employers and the taxpayers they hire continue to stream out of the state). When Wal-Mart opened here a few years back they had thousands of applicants for hundreds of jobs; what are those not selected supposed to do? Invest in training for jobs for which there are already too many applicants?
In talking to someone working in a convenience store (one of the few places that seems to hire), she was bemoaning the fact that her hours were being cut and given to other newer workers - they simply cost less. She was going to job fairs and such, but there simply are very few jobs here. When looking at part-time jobs, one quickly realizes these aren’t the part-time jobs of yesteryear (often designed to supplement one’s income); these part-time jobs today are designed to be your sole job (by requiring scheduling flexibility that precludes working anywhere else, or even going to school). The 29-hour minimum-wage job is the norm for an increasing number of people; expect to see more and more of them voting themselves things from those of use earning more.
