Republican presidential candidates are competing to propose dramatic changes to tax policy that go well beyond the partyâs previous platforms and all but ensure the issue will play a central role in the general election.
Driven by a desire to stand out in a crowded field and spark economic growth, the GOP contenders no longer just say they want to lower rates and expand the tax base. Their new ideas, once the province of right-leaning think tanks, make previous Republican plans look timid.
Nearly all the GOP candidatesâwho will meet again Tuesday evening in a debate hosted by Fox Business Network and The Wall Street Journalâare promoting at least one tax idea the party hasnât tried to sell to a general-election audience.

Sadly enough of our electorate now wants to tax the EEEEEEVIL Rich that these guys are going to have to be a bit careful about painting themselves into a corner.
Taxes should be only for necessary protective services ... police, fireman, military
What will we do with all those bureaucrats out of work?
Open their eyes to all the illegals they helped to bring in that took the jobs they would have had, and get out of the way of the angry mob.
The girls would be given remedial home ec classes
The guys would be issued gloves and workboots and given a job fixing roads, bridges, shipping ports etc.
I see some Republicans still playing up that their plan “take millions of taxpayers off the tax rolls” as if that’s a good thing. It isn’t. More and more, I’ve come to realize that everyone has to pay some income tax. If they don’t, we end up in the situation we have now, where the bottom half votes itself benefits out of the pockets of “the rich.”
Exactly...lower taxes is NOT a winning story for 2016 with the majority of voters.
Jobs for Americans IS a winning story.
Would you vote for a candidate who promised to raise your income taxes? Then why should those paying little or no income tax vote for the candidate that will raise theirs?
Amen to that. I'd love to see the look on that smug SOB at the IRS when he’z shown the door.
The IRS has been used as a political weapon against American citizens. It has been used to alter the outcome of a free election. They've obstructed justice/investigations, attempted to silence voices of opposition and intimidate citizens.
TIME TO ABOLISH THE IRS!
(Which, btw, is Trump's psychology .... if we get back what made America great ... America will be great again)
Taxation is a problem.
A Nation of Moochers is a far bigger problem.
