The book was written in 1990 right? So that is only 20 or so years after the event not 45. An he says he got an “offer from West Point”. If he got an offer then there would be a record of said offer. There isn’t so no Dr Carson never got an “offer from West Point”. Saying you got an “offer from West Point” is a vastly different when being encouraged to apply to West Point. Way way way different. There where lots and lots of ROTC programs in the USA back in 1969 being a TOP ROTC student doesn’t automatically get you into West Point.

Oh, give me a break. When he wrote this in the 1990s he was recalling events from 20 years prior. The point still applies, for goodness sake. He has consistently reported it the same way since the first book was written. The offer was made during a dinner conversation informally by Westmoreland. Carson never thought to fully investigate or even start the process of going forward with pursuing the "offer" discussed at dinner. He wanted to go to Yale, and did not have any money to apply several different places. He wanted to apply to Yale and did so, and never pursued the West Point offer. He may have not recalled the exact verbiage that Westmoreland stated (or perhaps he did), but the result of that conversation was that he was under the impression he was offered a scholarship to West Point.

Now, when that was written in his book, should he have (or someone at the publisher) fully investigated that to make sure it was all technically sound and then re-written to be more precise and in-keeping with the technical aspects of what was "offered"? Sure. He probably did not envision running for President when he wrote it so he didn't think it would be parsed so severely and technically.

Agree 100% with you. I argued most of Friday that since Carson, never applied, was never nominated and was never accepted, then he never got a scholarship. For him to claim he did is wrong and he’s been using this to enhance his biography for years. But very few on here seem like to agree with me. Anyway, Carson is a disaster as a conservative. Plenty of things to critique there.
