(Prince Edward Island, Canada) could be overrun with lobster because of climate change, say experts

Due to warming water trends, experts say the province of Prince Edward Island could become a veritable hatchery for lobster within a half-century. While they caution there is a lot they don't know about the spiny delicacies, it does seem almost certain that the trend toward abundance in the Atlantic Canadian lobster fishery is not about to slow down.

"With the temperature increasing in P.E.I. waters and decreasing the number of days a baby lobster is susceptible, you have less predation and an increase in settlement size lobsters," says Memorial University grad student Ryan Stanley, who is the grandson of a lobster fisherman in P.E.I.

Experts are gathering in Charlottetown this week for the "U.S.-Canada Lobster Symposium", a three day conference that is sponsored by the The PEI Fishermen's Association and is intended to look at the effects of climate change on the lobster fishery in Atlantic Canada and the Northeast United States.

Interesting. I was told this summer while visiting Long Island and eating lobster that the lobsters did not come from the local bay ‘were running out because of GW. I asked the caterer when I got up there. Of course tgeyre local

Funny. I’d hoped to see the water way up to the cabanas by now. High tide water mark hasn’t changed in 40 years.

Oh that’s coming

Right

But Canadian lobsters aren’t as good as ours.
We salt our lobster fields with Brawndo pellets.

-- ... lobster used to be fed to prisoners, such was its esteem in the higher classes --

And the practice was considered cruel and unusual punishment! Seriously.

I read something interesting about lobsters recently.
They grow older, but they don’t age.
Apparently, their gene for telomerase is turned on, in all parts of their bodies.

The prisoners were fed mashed lobster, shell and all. Trust me, it’s probably as bad as it sounds.

Being originally from New England I’ll bring a ton of hot dog buns up to Prince Edward Island. I love lobster rolls.

What freakin’ global warming?!?!?

I’m over half a century old and weather has been the same thing my entire life. Had some hot summers and not so hot ones. Had some harsh winters and some mild ones... But essentially, give or take a few degrees and inches of precipitation, every year is just like one of the past three.

Btw... Yep, I’ve got da butter ready!

You might want to wait with the drawn butter. In the Pacific, Dungeness are plentiful but toxic due to warm-water algae blooms.

Man’s wife goes scuba diving and doesn’t return...

The police show up the next day and inform the man, “Sir, we have bad news, good news, and even better news.”

The husband says “Okay, well give me the bad news first.”

“Well sir, we are sorry to say that your wife has drowned. She is dead, I’m terribly sorry.”

“Oh no... wait, what’s the good news?”

“Well sir, we pulled her body out of the water and there were three lobsters attached to the body!” We feel you are entitled to one of the.

“THATS THE GOOD NEWS!? WHAT THE HELL IS THE BETTER NEWS!?”

Cop says,
“We are going to pull her up again tomorrow!!”
