With Ben Carson gaining ground in presidential polls, Donald Trump is expanding attacks on his chief rival and suggested he’s nuts.

The dramatic stories from Carson’s rough youth growing up in Detroit are getting a fresh look after CNN contacted multiple Carson friends, classmates and other contemporaries who were unable to corroborate the incidents. Trump fired his first shot Thursday night, when he tweeted: “The Carson story is either a total fabrication or, if true, even worse-trying to hit mother over the head with a hammer or stabbing friend!” It was only last month — when Trump led all the polls — that the real estate mogul said he could see Carson as a possible running-mate.

Trump and Cruz are the only two men I feel comfortable with at this point. Either one is fine with me. Though I think Trump would have a better chance of victory in the general.

Yup, Trump can win. I think though he should not say much about Carson...he's self-destructing or at least the media is destroying him. Trump has already had his exam and came out smelling like Roses. They aren't going to find any dirt on Cruz but they will paint him as being right of Hitler.

My first questions on Mr. Carson’s intellectual and rationalization capabilities was his talk in which he was wondering if the Great Pyramid, among others were build for grain storage, and not for burial of the pharaohs of the time.

Has Mr. Carson ever seen a cross-sectional view of what a pyramid looks like? It’s like 90% stone. It’s an obscene bit of overkill to build a grain storage bin that has to survive only a decade or two. This, however, is exactly what they are used for in the games Civilization I and Civilization II. Those are PC video games - not to be confused with actual human history.

The second question is one of his personal integrity. Mr. Carson detailed that he was offered a Westpoint Scholarship. It’s revealed today, that Westpoint has no record of him either applying, or being offered a scholarship. Mr. Carson’s campaign today admitted that this piece of factual history, was fabricated by Mr. Carson.

Trump has been written about in the news and tabloids for decades. Trump is teflon against those clowns while the media has juicier target with Carson. They got a better chance of defining him whether right or wrong.

Please don’t perpetuate the very evil myth that the Nazis were somehow right-wing. That is an American media/academia/Hollywood invention designed to demonize the right.

Right of Hitler? Cruz is as ideologically unlike Hitler as it is possible to be. Except I suppose, that he is patriotic. Hitler was as left wing as they come, but yes, I suppose the left can distort language that much! Terrible thing, the people calling conservatives Nazis and Fascists when it is they who actually embrace the same politics as Nazis and Fascists.

You imply that Walmart is all a retired brain surgeon is fit for? Seriously? I have to say, is that because he is black? Do you seriously think one of the foremost hospitals in the world would have allowed him to operate on brains as an affirmative action hire?

I get that you are skeptical of Carson. But putting "retired" in quotes means what? That you doubt he is retired? Or that he was a brain surgeon? Get a hold of yourself. Both are absolutely documented and true. He was a very celebrated doctor here in Maryland at the Johns Hopkins hospital, and he most certainly is retired. Brain surgery is not something you can do part-time to "keep your hand in." It requires hospital appointment and huge malpractice insurance; many surgeons retire younger than 65 because it is so taxing physically and requires top-notch physical fitness, vision and steadiness, all of which normally decline with age.

I'm a Trump supporter, but see no reason for trashing Carson's obvious accomplishments as a human being.
