It's not uncommon to hear about low voter turnout in some elections. But some lawmakers believe getting students involved at a young age and educating them on the issues will help those numbers.

Yep, they are scared so they want to lower the voting age. They are betting public school educated children will be indoctrinated at school to vote for them.

Changing it to 18 was a really BAD idea in the first place. So why not double down?

Do you think they would bother with the logistics of actually voting? Teacher will just mail in absentee for the entire class.

Better give them the right to drink alcohol too.

After they find out exactly who (what?) they elected, they'll need a stiff shot of Jack. Maybe 2 or 3.

I’m 20, and I don’t think anyone under 25 should be able to vote...if not 30.

Yup. What it is is an attempt to get the camel’s nose under the door gay marriage style.

dc would go left without them. So it’s not for DC. It’s for the rest of us.

“Better give them the right to drink alcohol too.”

If you can be trusted to vote for your leaders and you can die for your country, you should be able to ingest alcohol and smoke cigarettes.

DC could choose to allow 16 year olds to vote in LOCAL elections, but they can’t change the voting age for Presidential elections, because that is a federal law that would require a constitutional amendment to alter.

There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents 16 year olds from voting in presidential elections.

We don’t need quantity. We need quality. That means a license to vote only after passing a civics exam. Once every 4 years. On the dole? Sorry. No voting for you till you’re off.

.....a real job (not government service)....

I agree except for cases of military service.
Some people would argue that you are advocating military personnel not be able to vote.

I am assuming you are speaking only of employees of the various alphabet agencies.

That does lead me to ask about the FBI, CIA and Secret Service?
Would they get an exemption along with the military?

Just wondering.

Good grief. I wouldn't trust my 16-year-old self to have voted sensibly. No way should the teenagers in the District of Criminals be voting.
