Detroit: The Triumph of Progressive Public Policy
Michigan Capitol Confidential ^ | 11/3/2015 | Jarrett Skorup

Imagine a city where all the major economic planks of the statist or "progressive" platform have been enacted:

A "living wage" ordinance, far above the federal minimum wage, for all public employees and private contractors. A school system that spends significantly more per pupil than the national average. A powerful school employee union that militantly defends the exceptional pay, benefits and job security it has won for its members. Other government employee unions that do the same for their members. A tax system that aggressively redistributes income from businesses and the wealthy to the poor and to government bureaucracies. Would this be a shining city on a hill, exciting the admiration of all? We don't have to guess, because there is such a city right here in our state: Detroit

Detroit has been dubbed "the most liberal city in America" and each of these "progressive" policies is alive and well there. How have they worked out?

In 1950, Detroit was the wealthiest city in America on a per capita income basis. Today, the Census Bureau reports that it is the nation's 2nd poorest major city, just "edging out" Cleveland.

When that indian governor ran into debt problems because of tax cuts it was everywhere in the papers. He recovered, i think. That’s wasn’t reported.

These failures are swept under the rug.

By Indian, i meant American Indian

Detroit was so very, very beautiful and powerful. It was an engine.

The result is a vast burned-out wasteland with a tiny gleaming enclave in one corner.

You can look at the “earthlight” image of North Korea to see the same thing, scaled up to nation size.

All are great data points, but while conservative analysts can “connect the dots,” liberals just draw circles around them.

>>By Indian, i meant American Indian<<

I have seen 2 versions of differentiation:

“Red Dot” vs “Feather” Indian.

“Call Center” vs “Casino” Indian.

Now, there's an accomplishment to really inspire civic pride. :=)

Yep. It was the city of a lifetime to spend a childhood in. So glad I was able to do that.

Sadly, OPM (Other People’s Money) eventually runs out in socialist systems. The party cannot go on forever, but then again, it was probably a lot of fun for the takers while it lasted.

The guy who got the ball rolling ... Mayor Coleman Young

Because of him business owners high-tailed it for the
suburbs and left Detroit for greener pastures.

When you elect Democrats you get California. When you keep electing Democrats you get Detroit.

It was an engine.

In 1950 it had the highest per capita income in the nation. It went from first to worst starting with the riots.

Everyone should look very hard at Detroit for it is a look into the future for America.

As much as we try to think we can turn things around, the certainty of the future of America has been set on a course that cannot be changed.

Proof of that in world history is the fall of the Roman empire...and now we repeat that again.

The morals, personalities, virtues and individual freedoms have been attacked so severely over the past 40 years that they don’t even resemble what they once were.

Consequently, all personal responsibility for failure in any manner is freely given to the government to fix.

The government fed upon that and now is a huge bloated pig eating our freedoms and liberties up at an amazing rate.

Over 50 years ago I said that no army could even possibly invade and take over our country. Our country would be conquered in Washington by the Supreme Court, the House, the Senate and the Executive branch......and now it is very clear that I was absolutely right.

In the whole of the United States there are only two individuals who can save us before we go over the cliff: Trump or Cruz. If they are not elected my statement over 50 years ago will become true in 2016...and we all have ourselves to blame.

Well, I believe The Almighty spoke to me, saying that He would utterly destroy this country. For abortion. For corruption. For denying Him. This was some time ago.

He also said that 0bama would win in 2012, that he would steal the election, and that he knew he had.

I personally believe the country is gone and that Congress will have to be dismissed, come 2016. It functions as fantasy football now but is being kept on to amuse the citizens.

This is one of the reasons I support Trump. He’s a downright fighter. We have to have someone who loves this country. He does.

Cruz does, but he’d work with Congress, when they have shown they won’t work with him. I also hold the TPA against him.

Trump, of course, has his detractions, too. Kelo, etc.
