Might have been another type missile but probably not a MANPAD. The airliner was at 31,000 feet altitude and the MANPAD only will go to 15,000 feet.

At this point is it likely any of the governments or their news whores would tell us the truth about altitude, black boxes, cargo, passenger manifests or basically anything? It is either all trustworthy and true or all suspect. Truth cannot be cherry-picked and with the current administration and the fact that the American Congress had to hold hearings to try and get at the truth of events in the Middle east is why everything is suspect.

Question is do you trust the source telling you the plane’s altitude? If you do, fine.

ISIS holds Surface-to-Air Missiles? Commercial Jets Flying over Iraq at Risk?

“It is believed that the ISIS militants, who have declared an independent caliphate in Syria and Iraq, may now possess the technology which has the capability to bring down a commercial airline flying at an altitude of over 30,000 ft.”

Looking at the wreckage more like a bomb placed on board. However, seems to me with the kind of passenger victims that has to be Russian tourists???
