LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville apologized to the school's entire Hispanic community Thursday after a photo surfaced showing President James Ramsey among a group of staffers at a Halloween party dressed in matching stereotypical Mexican costumes.
They wore bushy mustaches and sombreros, and rattled maracas as they posed for the photo.
Ramsey's chief of staff, Kathleen Smith, issued a statement expressing "deep regret" over the incident.
"We made a mistake and are very sorry," she wrote, adding that the university pledges to train staff and engage with the campus over diversity and racial equality issues. "This event shows we have much more to learn about our community."

Ha! Just watched Red Eye and Daren (Darin?) McGavin was wearing Amerind garb, complete with a huge feather headdress and face paint.
I was thinking about a full Gestapo uniform complete with Luger, leather greatcoat, and a red armband with a smiley face on it.

Actually this kind of thing goes way back. Anyone remember the Frito Bandito commercials which ran 1967-71 (voiced by the famous Mel Blanc)? The Bandito got the axe due to complaints that it was insulting to Mexicans. Yes, almost 45 years ago, Frito's caved to the same pressures.
It’s frickin Halloween.
Give it back to the kids. Let them make their own costumes.

No one in the pretensious “Hispanic Community” really cares what kind of costume the president wore.
It’s not about being offended - it’s about power and control.
The “Perpetually Offended” just like to see how much they can make non-liberals or authority figures squirm.
When they were younger they just pulled wings off of flies and wrapped rubber bands around the cat’s paws.
Halloween has been perverted by a generation of adults who refuse to grow up. It’s obvious to teachers that many children now have more sense and good judgment than their parents.
I find their mascot, a Cardinal, insensitive to birds.
Why is it assumed that by dressing up in ethnic clothing you are disparaging someone of that race?
Is there something inherently wrong with Mexican culture and heritage that makes any depiction thereof offensive?

When are we going to stop apologizing for every supposed offense claimed by some thin skinned jackass looking for any little bit of power?
I’m sorry should be saved for REAL offenses, not made up charges with no merit.
So if they wore kilts and had bagpipes would Scottish folk be offended? What makes the Mexican nationality so special that they get special consideration from the race card folks who consider them so “different†from the rest of humanity that their culture cannot be depicted by others.The reality is race card folks are incapable of raising their consciousness to accept people as individuals apart from their race because in their world individuality has no existence outside of a race collective that is different from their own and which they subconsciously deem not as advanced as their own.
Political Correctness was designed to do that. and it’s worked beyond their wildest dreams.
