IIRC, al Nusra is one of our ‘friendly forces’ in Syria with connections to al Qaeda and in opposition to Assad.
A former al Nusrite is al Baghdadi who is the leader of ISIS.
I need to check on the above, but I think my memory is correct.
“al Baghdadi” was reportedly captured and later released from a US prison camp in Iraq, you know, to go on and form ISIS and eventually take out the baathists who temporarily allied with him against Maliki’s (Shiite) govt in Baghdad
“al Baghdadi” was the torturer rapist and murderer of US hostage Kayla Mueller
“al Baghdadi” was targeted by a Russian(?) air attack on a convoy near the Iraq/Syria border heading to a meeting several weeks ago, his second in command and others were killed.
“al Baghdadi” reportedly survived the attack, reported was taken to a Turkish hospital (perhaps one run by Turkish PM Erdogans daughter) and non mainline reporting indicated he was later transferred to a “US medical facility/Bethesda”
