Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin was elected the 62nd speaker of the House on Thursday, taking the gavel that he never sought to wield from John A. Boehner, who relinquished it under fire.
But the personal jubilance and high expectations felt by Mr. Boehner, who was elected in a sweeping Republican takeover of the House in 2011, have been replaced with a grim recognition that Mr. Ryan's ascent stems not from electoral victory but rather the chaos in the ranks of his party's sizable majority.
Mr. Ryan received 236 votes, a comfortable margin that included several of the hardline conservatives who had worked to oust Mr. Boehner.

One piece of trash for another piece of trash.
When McCarthy didn’t walk right in, Ryan was waiting in the wings. The RINOs won again.
Yeah, he needs to rein in those 45 pesky conservatives and their 32 million pesky constituents. You’d think we had a representative gov’t or something.
That’s exactly right.
Why is my tax money going to these people again? So I can have taxation without representation?
The secret vote- he did NOT have the 218 margin to win.
So, what is the vote tally per representative. Who caved, particularly on the Freedom Caucus.
Because— they have been duped or bought or lied to, or... all three.
The chaos was caused by an anemic leadership. Period. The accusation is that is it some small group of uncompromising rabble rousers. That group has time and again given in to leadership in their leadership elections, budgets, spending and more. The problem is a complete lack of direction and failure at the top. Only in this situation is somehow the leadership devoid of responsibility. If the House had a head coach or GM they would have been fired a long time ago.
He’s who they wanted so how is it a “fix”?
Awesome. More nothing getting done on the conservative side. A fitting replacement for the whiner. Good thing we “took back” the house and senate last (s)election cycle huh? And some people wonder why others don’t go the the voting booth. Can’t tell the rinos from the dimocrats anymore.
You might not agree with him ideologically, but Rep. Ryan is not a “piece of trash”. Try not to be such an ass from your anonymous perch behind a keyboard.
I’m watching it now...what a freakin’ love fest.
After the vote, Boehner was standing behind the podium biting his lip and weeping.
And there was Romney and his wife sitting in the balcony looking on with pride and love all over their faces.
And now satainst baby-killer Pelosi is asking for God’s bless over the House.
The ONLY good thing about this vote is it gives Trump more votes.
Well, I guess since Romney couldn’t get the White House he had to settle for the U.S. House.
236 votes. I want to see who all voted.I am only relieved that this is the last time I will have to see Boehner cry. Which he is now. Who knows where we can get a list of who turned from the freedom caucus and voted now for Ryan.

Rush suggested that the Ryan deal was scripted, planned ahead of time. And I would add: even down to the ‘compromise’.
I believe that McCarthy was part of the plan.
He ‘ran’, giving him ‘status’ in his district, then stepped down. This gave the “Hardliners” a victory. (And avoided any discussion about his girlfriend.)
Note that Kevin is still there.
