Bush walks into Rubio's trap

For Jeb's supporters, it was a night of crushing disappointment.

Jeb Bush needed a big debate performance more than anyone on the stage. Instead, he faded away, and his campaign isn't even bothering to argue otherwise.

Banging on the CNBC production team's door halfway through the debate, campaign manager Danny Diaz reamed the debate host over how little time Bush was getting.

In the end, the one-time front-runner scored less than seven minutes, worse than almost every other candidate.

When the debate ended, Diaz and campaign advisor Michael Steel faced relentless questioning in the spin room about how long Bush would remain in the race.

"I think we're in for the long haul and we're in to win, but I appreciate the question," Diaz said to a reporter asking if Bush would still be in the race by the Iowa caucuses on Feb. 1.

But one week after seeing payroll slashed and consultants fired, some Bush staff wondered what the next round of recriminations would be - and if a blame game was about to begin. Many of Bush's top donors found their already thin confidence further shaken.

"Horrible" is how one Florida-based Bush bundler summed up the night. "He got crushed."

Yeb not getting enough time? Let him stand on his tippy toes for attention. Yeah, that will work.

You’re thinking of a different Michael Steele.

A few of Jeb!’s donors have defected to Rubio already. The defection will now become a stampede after last night. In the mano a mano featuring Bush vs. Rubio, Bush got his lights knocked out. Overall, I don’t think Rubio can pull his numbers up enough ..... he’s still got the Scarlet Letter firmly emblazoned on his forhead (A for “amnesty”) just as Christie continues to be crippled by lugging around his Obama bear (hug).

Actually I wasn’t but now that you bring it up him too! Jeb’s Steel is a Boner guy for years.

Michael Steel, one of Speaker John Boehner’s top aides, is moving to Miami to work in a “leadership role” for Jeb Bush’s political action committee.

Steel has worked as the press secretary for Boehner since 2008, when the Ohio Republican was the minority leader of a battered Republican party in the House. He has guided Boehner’s communications operation for seven years, helping craft the strategy that made the Ohio Republican speaker, and subsequently playing a key role advising him in day-to-day governing, including high-stakes negotiations with President Barack Obama.

If he's ashamed of his connection to two former Presidents named Bush... He shouldn't be offered (or accept) $$$$ from Republican donors

His candidacy is a corrupt fiasco.

That was not a trap set by Rubio. He is not that good. He had his staff look up things on the internet.

And as soon as some can be found, we'll ask 'em to tell us why.

This has always been Bush's fundamental problem.

I know lots of people who support Trump, Cruz, Carson, even Rubio. I do not know a single person who supports (or admits to supporting) Bush.

There are people who would be willing to hold their noses and vote for Bush if they have to choose between between him or Hillary. However, other than several big money donors (who are great to have, no question about it), Bush simply does not have very many (if any) supporters that think he is the best choice.

Bush, Paul, Kasich, Santorum, Jindal, Graham, Pataki and Gilmore need to come to reality and exit the race.

I would probably add Carly Fiorina to the no chance list; however, I really hope that she sticks around at least through the early primaries. She is the only Republican candidate that can attack Hillary however she wants without being accused of misogyny by the lamestream press.

The Democrats and the lamestream press hate her for it too.

Exactly. Leaving her in the mix for now is a good idea.

Yep. In all the media coverage of the election up until now, I've never heard anyone utter the words "I'm fired up about Jeb" or any variation thereof.

Other than a few die-hard, left wing “I am voting for her because she has a uterus” feminists, I have never heard anyone utter the words “I’m fired up about Hillary” either.

The fact that a 60s reject socialist like Bernie Sanders is polling above 1% shows how desperate the Democrats are for someone else to vote for.

The Republicans have too many viable candidates to settle for Jeb. The Democrats don’t have any viable candidates to vote for instead of Hillary.
