" Intimidation, pure and simple. They are conditioning the kids. You do what we say or we will bring in the cops to take you out."

The school's hands have been tied by lawyers. Most don't even have detention as a deterrent anymore. They have no other alternative.

Keep in mind this cop doubled as a school officer so he probably was well aware of this problem student.

Well, here are some ideas: (1) two adults could easily carry her, chair and all, out of the classroom, without resorting to any violence; (2) if an officer thinks physical force will be required against an unarmed person and there is no immediate physical danger to himself or others, why not call for backup before going WWE on her? I would fire this guy in a heartbeat.

Carry her chair and all? And when she threw her arms out onto the door frame to stop them from taking her out of the class and she broke her arm and was dropped by the 2 adults you would now have 2 fired people.

Call for back up? yeah that will get expensive fast.

There is no clean way to extricate a defiant person from any situation. It will always look bad. Sheriffs and Police try to hire big muscular people or encourage them to muscle up as part of their job duties. It will always look rough and bad. But this student brought it on herself. I've been kicked out of class before. I left after asking: "Are you serious?" and the teacher said, "yes go to the office" or she said, "yes get out". Nobody else got involved and guess what we had no cop at school because all the other students were of similar mind.

Except there is now another video on this incident:
“There’s a video … showed her striking and punching at the officer,” Richard County Sheriff Leon Lott told CNN. ”Again, our hope would have been that he could have de-escalated the situation without getting physical.”

Scoff all you want. I have no children to worry about and I am old enough not to care.

Also by design! Lawyers are into everything now days. The powers that be want to make everything a crime so that we are all guilty of something. Some refuse to acknowledge it.

30 years ago we had police in the schools. Ours would befriend kids to try to find out where the narcotics were coming from. This is nothing new. But! A teacher who can not or will not control their students and calls the police in has lost the battle.

I think I would have handcuffed the little twit to her desk and left her there until her parents came to collect her. But I probably would be fired as well.

LOL, yes he hurt her self-esteem. The schools are out of control and nobody can do anything about it now. The horse is out of the barn.

“This is the dumbest meme of the hood supporters.
Next time one of Oungo’s sons breaks into your living room and pees on the floor...

He’s not an immediate threat; but I’d love to be there to see how you handle it.”

for one thing police officers are trained in “come along holds”, and various other avenues that could have been used The kid that was body slammed as in the WWF was a female. Yes I’ve been there and most police officers will acknowledge that this was a little over the top.

I have to wonder why this officer was called in the first place.

Because the teacher can't do the job, apparently.

the cop showed poor judgement

Looking at the pattern of some of these cases, I think we need mandatory steroid testing for police, just like for pro athletes. This behavior fits the "roid rage" profile to a "T".

Precisely and the government has done their best to assure that the teacher can not do their job. Must not touch the children no matter what!

Looking at the pattern of some of these cases.

Yes lets look at the pattern of these cases.
Each time the cops were called for some infraction.
Each time the perp ignored a lawful order.
Each time they resisted arrest.
Each time the officer was blamed for doing his job.

So I would suppose that under similar circumstances the cop should just leave the scene and let the inmates run the show.

Good planning, a plan for for a complete civil breakdown.

Yup, I am asking that. Because the entire class has already stopped working long before this video started. Kids love a sideshow and that is what they all got.

Not to mention, this is probably not this girls first brush with defiance. To keep learning happen, you remove the audience.

The kids were on laptops. It’s a 2-3 minute process to have them close the laptops, pick them up, and move to a nearby empty classroom or library.

The teacher would have lost significantly less productive time.

Now, don’t misunderstand me, this IS annoying and would not work over and over. My point is to remove the audience and then deal with the situation. That girl should never be allowed back into a standard classroom for the rest of the year. But the way the police officer handled it was just so wrong - and cost a lot of classroom instructional time - and his job.

I was only offering an alternative. I’d be interested in knowing how you would do it differently

Apparently, a lot of Americans and Freepers agree with me.

Remember when conservatives disapproved of this sort of stormtrooper tactics?

If you're one of the folks defending this bit of chest-beating alpha-primate behavior, remember one thing: one of these days it might be you getting body-slammed by a cop for not separating your recyclables or speaking politically incorrect ideas out of turn or committing some other violation of The Rules. Karma is a harsh mistress.

How is it possible from anything I posted that you could possibly believe that I would defend this officer? When a grown man has to tackle and throw around a teenage girl. He’s got a problem.

Sorry if I misspoke: the “If you’re one of the folks defending this bit of chest-beating alpha-primate behavior” was intended as a general comment to the thread, not addressed to you specifically.

OK not a problem. There are to many people in our society going around acting like toddlers when someone refuses to immediately obey them.

It's really quite frightening. I for the first time in my life find myself wary of law enforcement. I do not wish them any harm, but I also no longer trust that they will not shoot me, my dog or my husband if we don't comply immediately.
