It is as though the neighborhood were divided by an invisible wall.
On one side, children attend a public elementary school where test scores are high, the students are mostly white and well off, and the parent-teacher organization can raise $800,000 a year to pay for things like a resident chef.
On the other side, children attend a public elementary school where 87 percent of the students are black or Hispanic and 84 percent receive some form of public assistance. Just over a tenth pass the state reading and math tests. There is no library or art teacher.

This is easy. Where is Robert Moses when you need him. Build a highway through the “slum” area displacing all of them, then split the “right” kids between the two schools. They’ll comprise 100% of both. Plus there will be a new highway!!

Who does this Bible-thumpin', gun-totin', Sarah Palin worshippin', knee-jerk reactionary Dittohead who wrote this Conservative bilge work for!?
Wait, what? The New York Times?
Makes me laugh. These people vote for “inclusiveness” every time they can, although they’re very backwards and racist. How dare they think their kids are superior to the ones in the ghetto who mug them!
Wait till Melissa Harris-Perry hears about this.
We had the same thing going on in my large, fair Southern city.
White parents fled to the outskirts of the county to put their little darlings in mostly white schools. Inner city schools were left to stagnate. The affluent, heavily involved outer-perimeter parents boosted PTA funding. Inner-city, lackluster PTAs could barely afford to buy used coloring books.
Throw in a dysfunctional, clusterfk’ed school board, and ALL parents in the district had every right to be upset. Heck, one white parent sued the school board, lost, ran for school board, won...and spent the next several years personally trying to destroy the board.
Try decaf.
These are the Damn Yankees who shoved forced bussing on Southerners in the 1960’s. It is still the law of the land in school districts in Louisiana and Arkansas. White children are bussed long distances away from their neighborhood school to an inner city school, but that is okay because those Redneck Southerners are all a bunch of racists, anyway, right?
Leftists are always delighted to gore other people’s oxen, but when their ox is to be gored, their true colors come to the surface.
