The Bushes are burning as they consume the news.
Bush family patriarch George H.W. Bush is bewildered, alarmed and irritated, the New York Times reported over the weekend, that his son Jeb is going so poorly in a Republican presidential primary battle dominated by Donald Trump. The 41st president summoned his son George W., the 43rd president, Jeb and Bush money men to Houston for meetings Sunday and Monday to sort out what has gone so wrong that Jeb is now cutting staff.
They didnt have to look far for an explanation. All they had to do was listen to Jeb on Saturday in South Carolina.
If this election is about how were going to fight to get nothing done, then I dont want any part of it, the candidate said. . . . Ive got a lot of really cool things that I could do other than sit around, being miserable, listening to people demonize me and me feeling compelled to demonize them. That is a joke. Elect Trump if you want that.
I dont want any part of it? Ive got a lot of really cool things I could do? Elect Trump if you want? The self-described joyful tortoise may have just delivered the most petulant political speech since the future 37th president said You wont have Nixon to kick around anymore.
Bush is correct that Trumps campaign of insults has made the 2016 GOP primary race an ugly affair. But his response suggesting hed take his ball and go home rather than sully himself is precisely what has sunk Bushs candidacy so far. Angry voters want a fighter, and Bush, justifiably dubbed low-energy by Trump, doesnt seem to have it in him.

Because he listens to people like Dana Milbank.
Mommy, make it stop!
Please mommy.
People are not tired of racial pandering, he WAY overdid it
Nothing kills a good marketing campaign like a bad product.
Jeb and the RINOs are a bad product.
Because after eight years of Obama, the nation does NOT need a RINO.
Jebbie, go home to mama, you will never be president.
Ive got a lot of really cool things that I could do...
A. Take advanced Spanish
B. Get plastic surgery to look more Mexican
C. Hit a pinata in the shape of Trump’s head
Because he's a corporatist and nanny-state shill with few real conservative beliefs of his own?
Yeah, that's worked great for Perry, Jindal and Christie. (See my comment above).
IOW, Jeb is the problem.
Jeb killed his own campaign with his apologetics over illegal aliens. Add to this that he’s just not all that noticeable a candidate in an election year filled with some unique and outstanding personalities and he’s not going to get the same earned-media as would Trump, Carson, Cruz, or Fiorina.
And I’m sorry, but he all too often just looks silly and not very Presidential.
[If this election is about how were going to fight to get nothing done”]
What? For the Cheap Labor Express? You’re an enemy of Americans, Jeb. Americans with jobs and Americans without jobs. You’re a traitor.
Rubio, you’re next on our list after Jeb drops out.
Jeb supports amnesty for illegal aliens, enough said.
The answer to this question is actually pretty easy. The mealy middle doesn’t give a hoot about the 2016 election yet - that’s Jeb’s base. Those who are interested in it are those like us: the informed and the involved.
And we know the Establishment when we see it.
It all went wrong with the exclamation point and the high expectations of punctuation.
Ive got a lot of really cool things that I could do...
He sounds like a teenager. Maybe he and BO could get together an do some cool stuff.
It went wrong because he was trying to preach a different platform than what he believes and couldn’t sustain the dichotomy.
That’s the difference with the Trump campaign, I hope anyways.
he does sounds like a teenager.
this immature moron wants to be president, or more likely thinks it is rightfully his as a prince to a king.
