What would you want if you were a billionaire?
Billionaires are people just like you who happen to have a lot of money.
Yup.
Our founders ended up opposing an aristocracy and allowing less well funded candidates to take donations was a means of keeping them competitive with wealthy candidates. Obviously money wasn’t as big of an issue in campaigns in those days but keeping rich and poor equally represented was a very big deal.
The argument over aristocracy is what wrecked the friendship between Jefferson and Adams. Adams wanted an aristocratic house of lords and Jefferson wanted the pauper sitting next to the wealthy baron as an equal in congress.
“What would you want if you were a billionaire?”
I would want someone to cook my bacon and hash browns in the mornings.
