Edwards is far from unknown. His father was the sheriff of Tangapahoa Parish for many years. His wife is a big wheel in the teachers union and they support him to the hilt. But the vote breaks the way it now does in La. and in spite of being one of the better donkey party candidates of late he will lose. Lt Gov race is more interesting, a black Dem will face Billy Nungesser (a man with a good bit of baggage) in November. The Dem is also a Chamber of commerce type and mayor of baton Rouge.

I don’t expect Nungesser to have much trouble dispatching Kip Holden. Holden underperformed Edwards by 6%, with no other Dem candidates in the race, meaning he got virtually most of the Black vote and almost no White votes (the remaining 67% went to the 3 GOP candidates). Black Dems don’t play well statewide in LA. I’d be surprised if he gets to 40% in the runoff.
