Trump hits Carson, refocuses on immigration

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is shifting his focus back toward the key GOP issue of immigration amid a slide in polls from Iowa.

Trump said in an interview broadcast Sunday that retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who took the lead in the first-in-the-nation caucus last week, is “very, very weak on immigration” and “believes in amnesty strongly.” “He’s very, very weak on immigration, and I’m very strong on immigration,” Trump said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “He believes in amnesty strong. He believes in citizenship – he’s going to give citizenship to people here illegally, and you can’t do that.”

He also said Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who’s expected to be the next Speaker, is “very weak on immigration.”

“I think he’s a very nice guy, I think he’s a very capable guy, but there’s a couple of issues he’s very weak on. And one of those issues is immigration,” Trump said. “We have to have a border. We have to have a wall. We’re going to have a wall.”

Trump additionally went after fellow presidential candidates Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for their stances on issue.

“But I would tell Carson and I would tell other people that are very weak on it – Jeb happens to be. Rubio happens to be very weak on immigration

Right on. Hammer home the threat of illegals. Never stop pounding on that issue and his pro amnesty opponents.

BTW, they’re NOT immigrants, they are illegal aliens. Letting the left define the words in the debate is the way to lose.

Also Trump can hit Carson on the Sharpton comment and the one that Carson’s aide said about Farrakhan.

Yes! And don’t forget Carson’s position of abolishing Social Security and Medicare. Given that a large number of his supporters are senior citizens, I think this needs to be emphasized.

I am glad to see Trump square off with him on immigration. The last thing we need is yet another President who will not enforce immigration laws.

Of course they are not immigrants. Immigrants apply to enter a country. Then there are the large number of dealers with push black tar heroin across the country. They only stay here briefly, make sure they send their income back to Mexico, the sell to only whites addicts this most addictive drug with a high overdose death rate. And they recruit among children. Only effective way to deal with them is to protect the borders.

I’m starting to think this fight over illegal immigration is a sideshow.

Unless you do something to rein in the massive legal immigration allowed by the 1965 Immigration Act, we’re done for, wall or no wall.

I think his strong suit is hammering the illegals. His group's response to the disruptive demonstrators demonstrated strength, something we haven't seen in a president in decades.

The downside is that it could be carried to heavyhandedness even intimidation if pushed to the extreme.

Still it was refreshing not seeing a candidate yield or even surrender to protest groups trying to hijack attention at campaign events.

Ben Carson Pretends He Doesn’t Really Want To End Medicare

As we already discussed here, GOP presidential candidate and former neurosurgeon Ben Carson told Politico that he wants to replace Medicare and Medicaid with cradle-to-grave health savings accounts.

When asked by Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace if he really wants to put an end to Medicare, Carson stammered and stuttered his way through the interview and tried to pretend that’s not what he wants to do, even though we all know that would be the end result if you move the funds from one program to the other.

Here’s more from The Hill on Carson’s train wreck of an interview on Fox: Ben Carson says he won’t end Medicare:

Republican Ben Carson on Sunday rejected the notion that he will end Medicare if he is elected president.

“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace asked Carson if his plan was to end the program, which serves 49 million senior citizens.

“That’s completely false, Carson said. “That’s a narrative someone’s putting out there to scare people.”

Carson said the program he’s outlined uses health savings accounts starting from the time a person is born until their death to largely eliminate the needs for people to be dependent on government programs.

“I would never get rid of the programs,” he said. “I would provide people with an alternative and I think they will see the alternative we’re going to outline is so much better than anything else.”

Wallace pushed Carson on what appeared to be a policy change, asking him if people will have a choice between health savings accounts and the traditional Medicare

“I do not believe in imposing things on people,” Carson said. “I believe in presenting things that are so attractive that people will quickly migrate to them.”

It’s pretty bad when even a host on Fox isn’t buying the B.S. you’re shoveling. Wallace pushed and pushed Carson on where the money would come from for his program, and Carson either doesn’t even understand what his own health care proposal would do, or he’s just lying through his teeth.

Trump needs to get on policy point and stay there. Trump needs to remember that at some
time in this process he is going to need the supporters of the other candidates to win
the general. Talking negative about them isn’t going to help. JMO.

“He believes in amnesty strong. He believes in citizenship – he’s going to give citizenship to people here illegally, and you can’t do that.”

True. Carson's citizenship amnesty is very bad.

But there are other kinds of amnesty that don't reach the level of citizenship, that are bad, such as expediting the good ones back in.

Trump must stay true to his written position on this issue.

If he wavers, he’ll lose.

I prefer when Trump is back on point like this. Trump is correct.

Sending illegals home, safe borders, better trade deals, jobs, industrial strength, financially sound Social Security, fighting wars to win - or not having to fight based on being strongest... support for friends like Israel - and not taking it on the chin for every two bit thug dictator in the UN...

The issues work in Trump's favor.

People call CARSON a conservative Christian, but his own statements say otherwise. CARSON’s stand on social issues is disturbing.

BEN CARSON - ON SOCIAL ISSUES
Carson has expressed support for same-sex civil unions, and following the Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states, he conceded the fight was over by declaring the ruling the “law of the land.” (Newsmax)

Despite maintaining a strong pro-life record, in a 1992 interview, Dr. Carson said that while he does not perform abortions, he personally referred women seeking abortions to other doctors. In the same interview, he said that he “would never advocate it’s illegal for a person to get an abortion.” (Baltimore Sun)

Dr. Carson co-authored a medical research paper in 1992 where he outlined his support for the use of aborted baby organs for research purposes. Carson defended his past statements, saying, “To not use the tissue that is in a tissue bank, regardless of where it comes from, would be foolish. Why would anybody not do that?”

Numerous conservatives have expressed that by providing the demand that abortion providers will supply the market and that participating in this practice is being complicit. (Life Site News)

As revelations came to light about Dr. Carson referring the mothers of unborn children with potential birth defects to abortionists, his campaign defended the practice. A campaign spokesman said, “he [Carson] believes in quality medical care, No. 1, and secondly, he believes in people making their own decisions based on facts and information.” Pressed on whether Carson stands by his decision to do so, the same spokesman said yes. The statement is particularly troubling given that pro-abortion proponents use similar language regarding a decision between the patient and their doctor, but not mentioning the life of the child. (Politico)

Since news surfaced of a 1992 research paper co-authored by Dr. Carson that included the use of fetal tissue, Caron’s stance on abortion has come under immense scrutiny and his defense of his previous medical decisions has been troubling to many in the pro-life movement. When asked if Carson stands by his past decision to refer patients to abortion doctors, Carson’s Communications Director said “He believes in quality medical care, No. 1, and secondly, he believes in people making their own decisions based on facts and information.”Additionally, the spokesman went on to say that Carson believes that you can’t stop abortion by making it illegal. The spokesman told Politico, “he [Carson] has always believed that the battle over abortion had to be waged in the hearts and minds of Americans, that you cannot legislate morality. But he also believes we’re winning the debate.” (Politico)

In the 1990s, Carson was a board member of the Baltimore Charitable Foundation which gave $200,000 in grants to Planned Parenthood. When confronted with this fact, and asked if Carson knew about the grants a spokesman said, “it doesn’t really matter.” (Politico)

When asked if he would support abortion in the case of incest or rape, Dr. Carson said, “I would hope that they would very quickly avail themselves of the emergency room, and in the emergency room, they have the ability to administer RU-486 and other possibilities before you have a developing fetus.” RU-486 is an abortifacient that kills a fertilized egg by artificially denying it the ability to attach to the uterine wall. Using Dr. Carson’s own standard of life beginning at conception, this would then constitute murder. (Politico)

During the campaign Dr. Carson has struggled to define when he believes life begins. He told ABC News that life begins “when the heart starts beating” but later clarified that he meant conception. (Politico)

BEN CARSON - ON IMMIGRATION
Carson in his books has staked out a hard line on immigration. Carson has called for both the border to be secured and strict interior enforcement measures.]

Carson has opposed illegal immigration and called for a system to ensure only legal immigrants are hired.

However, in more recent rhetoric Carson has championed a national guest-worker program as a way for immigrants to be granted citizenship and favored a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

In the late summer of 2015, Carson came out against rigorous enforcement of current deportation laws.

Carson has flip flopped on the proposed national guest-worker program; first, Carson said that illegals would have to return to their home country, but in July of 2015 Carson amended his proposal to allow for illegals to remain in country as guest workers as long as they pay taxes.

This proposal is very similar to the failed Gang of 8 amnesty bill and until the border is secured incentivizes illegal immigration.

Additionally Carson directly slammed calls for enforcing deportation laws. Carson like all the other GOP candidates wants the border secure, but Carson’s support for creation of a new guest-worker program comprised of illegal immigrants is amnesty but by another name.

This approach is great! He’s right. He’s the one who is strong on immigration. The weak ones are those who let illegals walk all over them (and us).
