Republican voters view Donald Trump as their strongest general election candidate, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll that highlights the sharp contrast between the party's voters and its top professionals regarding the billionaire businessman's ultimate political strength.
Seven in 10 Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters say Trump could win in November 2016 if he is nominated, and that's the most who say so of any candidate. By comparison, 6 in 10 say the same for retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who, like Trump, has tapped into the powerful wave of antiestablishment anger defining the early phases of the 2016 contest.
"It's the lifelong establishment politicians on both sides that rub me the wrong way," said registered Republican Joe Selig, a 60-year-old carpenter from Vallejo, California. "I think Trump is more electable. He's strong. We need strength these days."

So was Romney, McCain, Dole.....
I hope that people can see beyond the super pacs and how they are spewing all the lies, the ‘your going to vote for my candidate no matter what’, and have enough knowledge to know what is happening...
I know we that are on Free Republic do, but there are those that believe everything on T.V. and in the newspapers, if they are still around anymore....
Politicians Need Not Apply
I can hardly find anyone, in Church or wherever I can approach the political subject that has any idea of Currant Political affairs. They do know SNL.....that’s their news source.
And now Karl Rove tells us he’s not conservative enough hahaha
He isn't the only one. Carson and Cruz seem equal to the task, as well. I'm not sure about any others.
I don't see it that way. I see his passion, his willingness to be bold, but I also see some serious negatives: He isn't particularly well-informed on issues, actually less so than most of the GOP candidates. In debates with lyin' Hillary, she will make him look unprepared. Other candidates have been and are standing up to the PC crap, especially Carson (also some needs to study more detail on the issues) and Fiorina (who sometimes comes off as brittle---smile more, Carly!). Personally, I think Rubio is probably the most electable, though his relatively recent weaker views on illegal immigration hurt him with the base (me).
Trump is no more conservative than Romney, even less conservative, actually. I think of him as a guy slightly to the left of Romney, but aggressive and enjoying mixing it up with progressives.
Yes Cruz, also fits the bill.
