Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says Donald Trumps presidential campaign has been enormously helpful to his own.
If you look at this Republican primary, Im actually very grateful that Donald Trump has been in this race, because I think his campaign has been enormously beneficial to our campaign, Cruz said at the Iowa Candidate Assessment Summit on Saturday.
Why is that? Because it has framed the central question of this primary as Who will stand up to Washington? Cruz continued. Now, if thats the case, the natural next question is OK, who actually has stood up to Washington?
Cruz touted his record as an anti-Washington firebrand in the speech. He described the fight he led in Congress to tie Planned Parenthoods federal funding to a government-spending bill as epic.
About three weeks ago, we had an epic, drag-down fight in Washington. Millions of Americans rose up against Planned Parenthood, Cruz said.
I was proud to lead that fight against Planned Parenthood once again, he added.
The Texan also said he was proud to lead the fight to defund Obamacare in 2013, which resulted in a weeks-long government shutdown. Cruz said other candidates vying for the Republican presidential nomination have been absent from those major battles: Not a one of them was anywhere to be found leading that fight.

Your post is spot-on.
Trust me on this one: IF Trump wins and IF he appoints Cruz as AG, Cruz will have more influence and power than he would ever have in his own administration. Trump will take the arrows while Ted begins unraveling the criminal enterprise known as DC.
I absolutely agree with you.....!!!!!!!
.....so does Black Female Army Captain, I’m sure.
Her posts are consistently Trump All the Way.
Then you might as well vote for Hillary, b/c that’s exactly what 3rd party votes do...
Ted can learn a lot from Donald and vice versa. They have a future together.
Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different.....
GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!
There is a video out showing Cruz calling for a five-fold increase in H-1B visas, and repeating the proven lie about there not being enough STEM workers in the United States, when they are being laid off to hire foreign stem workers. Is that standing up to “Washington”?
He voted (enabled) the trade bill for Obama. Is that standing up to “Washington”?
He voted for the Corker bill along with all but one of the Republican senators. Is that standing up or just going along?
After he voted for the two bills, he goes around the country campaigning against the two bills. It is similar to no one actually asking Obama where he was the night of the Benghazi attact — no one asks Cruz to explain why he voted for the two bills.
It won’t be Bush. If Bush gets the nomination, Hillary will win. Bush’s ineptitude and complete lack of connection to the people is mindblowing.
But this idea that Cruz “can’t handle” the media is so off base. Trust me, Cruz is very cunning and he knows what he’s doing. He has been fighting the establishment/mainstream all his life. During college. As an attorney that went before the Supreme Court to argue on behalf of Texas to a bunch of liberals, RINOs and Thomas/Scalia. Then his campaign for senator in 2012. Now, you want to talk long shot? EVERYONE in the media and the Republican establishment told him it was a lost cause. The then-Lt. Gov. was “next in line”. He was the de facto Jeb Bush.
Cruz got up everyday and fought the media and the establishment. Little by little he traversed the state, picked up support here and there in pockets of people... a Republican Women’s Club, a Tea Party group, a Rotary Club, etc. That kind of grassroots reaching out is real. You connect with real people that go out and spread your message. And the rest his history. He defied the odds and beat the establishment.
I compare this man’s story with someone like Trump who just woke up a few months ago and decided he wanted to be a conservative. It just doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t believe he’s trustworthy. He’s gone along to get along for too long. He won’t fight for conservative principles or for the constitution. Socialized medicine? He doesn’t look at that like a bane to liberty, he says it’s great and he wants it to be “ the best socialized system!! The government is going to be YUGE! And Trump is going to take care of you!”
Sorry, Doughty, I don’t need or want Trump taking care of me. I’m a grown man. I appreciate the things he’s said about immigration, but that’s it. I have no interest in his big government, statist ideology.
Cruz 2016.
You bring up these same points in every thread when you know damn well Cruz was lied to be McConnell. McConnell lied to his face about TPA and Iran.
After he found out that he’d been lied to by the majority leader, you know what he did? He stood up on the floor of the senate and told the American people the truth. Go look it up. He actually called McConnell out on the floor of the senate. What other candidate has had the balls to fight the establishment like that? Trump was still donating to Hillary and calling Bill the “best president we’ve ever had” when Cruz was fighting to defend Texas’ sovereignty against the United Nations and George W Bush.
Your talking points have been debunked a number of times on this forum and you should and probably do know that.
Hence, I am going to take Mark Twains advice concerning arguing with a fool.
“You bring up these same points in every thread when you know damn well Cruz was lied to be McConnell. McConnell lied to his face about TPA and Iran.”
Yes, and Cruz supporters always ignore these votes. What he said about McConnell does not erase his support for the Obama agenda. I’m not trying to peer deep into Cruz’s heart, I am merely stating his votes.
1.) He called McConnell a liar over what he promised him about the ImportExport bank deal.
2.) He told Mark Levin that he was lied to (by “leadership”) about the trade bill insofar as they promised to insert a clause in it about immigration. Why would he vote for a bill that is bad for American industry for one, and why would he vote for a bill on trust that something would be placed in it after he voted for it?
3.) Cruz did in fact call for a five-fold increase in H-1B visas for the Gang of Eight immigration bill.
4.) Yes, he did vote for the Corker bill, along with all but one Republican senator. He was not lied to about the Corker bill. The bill did a run-around on the Constitutional treaty protection (Cruz is supposed to be Mr. Constitution). Mark Levin still inveighs against the utter stupidity and Republicans caving on the Corker bill. I suggest you call him up and straighten him out.
“Your talking points have been debunked a number of times on this forum and you should and probably do know that.
Hence, I am going to take Mark Twains advice concerning arguing with a fool.”
Okay, fool, start debunking, don’t just refer to it as an accomplished fact. And then, fool, after you do that, call up Mark Levin and debunk him, humiliate him (over the Corker bill), on nationwide radio.
That is the way you Cruz supporters debunk, you call people names. I have yet to see one who did not. They may exist, I just have not seen one.
No. The central question is, who will close the wide open border and restore Americas sovereignty before its too late.
‘And it wont be Cruz, thats for sure.’
That is the simple, honest truth. It will not be the recipient of big Club for Growth bucks, Ted Cruz.
I love Ted Cruz but this is not going to get him the nomination. It may get him VP or AG though. And that would be a good thing.
Regarding TPA ... internally inside the Cruz grassroots-level organizations, there was FEROCIOUS opposition to Ted Cruz first TPA vote ... I think that Ted Cruz ultimately voted against TPA party because of that ...
Ill vote third party. I like Trump a lot. Hes a God send. But I could never vote for him because he does not fear God.
How do you know he does not fear God?
Even if he does not fear God, he does not oppose God.
Hillary opposes God.
Your reasoning is extremely illogical. Stupid, even.
“Ill vote third party. I like Trump a lot. Hes a God send. But I could never vote for him because he does not fear God”.
You are not a soldier for Christ.
You call Trump a God send and then would vote against him?
I’m sorry but that is very bad thinking.
Thank you for a great post. You are absolutely correct.
God ordains and controls all worldly rulers, even the wicked ones. I don’t know what God will do this time but I believe we’ll get what we deserve.
Donald Trump says he's not sure if he's asked God for forgiveness, at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, which led some to question the sincerity of his alleged Christian faith.
Moderator Frank Luntz asked Trump on Saturday if he had ever sought God's forgiveness and Trump replied, "I'm not sure I have ever asked God's forgiveness. I don't bring God into that picture."
Trump clarified further about forgiveness in the church setting saying, "When I go to church and when I drink my little wine and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of forgiveness. I do that as often as I can because I feel cleansed. I say let's go on and let's make it right," declared Trump.
