Look at a map.
The only place a pipeline from the Gulf delivering natural gas or crude would HAVE to go through Syria.
Gas or oil flowing to Europe from the south would put Russia out of business. They currently control the heat in Berlin. If Russia loses THAT, their economy would stop. It behooves Russia to stop that at ALL Costs.
A deal with Iran to split control of Iraq would put the pressure on Saudi Arabia.
The price of oil would go up.
THAT makes them all happy. Except the Saudis. And no one likes them.
Russia can control through absolute power or the threat of power by taking over one country, and influencing one more. Talk about efficient.
If Russia cared that much about Christians and Muslims they would have bombed places a hell of a lot closer than Syria.
yes, we don’t know if the motivations are to be believed or if they believe them. But maybe they do. No way to know. It could be a big deal for some Russians. I know Syria has had lots of Russians move there to retire, etc in the Cold War days...
Exactly, oil and pipelines. Saudis are keeping the price of oil low and Russia ... more accurately Putin is hurting.
Putin wants to control the M.E. and all oil and gas. Obama gave him the opportunity. China wants in on the M.E. oil too that is why they are there.
There is nothing remotely Christian about Putin or Russia. Russia is our enemy and they will bring armies against Israel.
