It wasn’t you. Mainly.

But yeah, it was a no brainer that this was going to happen.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Few understand that things like viruses don’t follow written procedures.

If I remember right, you are from the medical field in Africa.

My tagline is straight from the CDC site... before they scrubbed it.

A few days ago, there was a British Columbian (?) woman who caught Ebola in Africa and was “cured” back home in January. Oops, the other day there was news it had popped back up. IOW, it doesn’t just continue to linger in seamen but probably in all parts of the body.

Ah, the CDC. Their site claims hyperbaric chamber therapy is not effective for treating autism, but we did it with our son and experienced great results. I’m at the point where if Big Gov says it’s good I avoid it like the plague, and vice versa.

As the full article points out, the tests detect RNA, not live virus. A more definitive study would culture the viruses to see if they are capable of reproducing.

One definitive study found live virus in semen several months after the infection had cleared. I’m drawing a blank on the exact time-frame.

Not to be crude, but I wonder if the virus (dead or active) would clear from semen faster if men would, um, play with themselves more to clear the contaminated fluids from their system.

The virus is not growing in the seminal vesicles, but that area is “immune privileged” (I think that’s the term), meaning that the immune system cannot access it to clear out the virus. And the fluid buffers the virus with a suitable pH and salt content, which could prevent it from being destroyed by environmental factors.

I’m beginning to think male Ebola survivors should be chemically castrated for 9 months or so after their symptoms go away. After all, with Ebola, one wet dream could ruin your whole family’s day.
