Gowdy to Clinton: We Didn't Sign Up to Investigate Your Emails Madam Secretary,
Townhall.com ^ | October 22, 2015 | Katie Pavlich

Posted on 10/22/2015 9:39:05 AM PDT by Kaslin

Benghazi Select Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy wasted no time Thursday morning going after Hillary Clinton and allegations from her presidential campaign team that his investigation into the 9/11/2012 terror attack is solely focused around her. From Gowdy's opening statement (bolding is mine):

Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods served our country with courage and with honor. They were killed under circumstances most of us could never imagine. Under cover of darkness, terrorists poured through the front gate of our facility and attacked our people and our property with machine guns, mortars and fire.

It is important we remember how these four men died. It is equally important we remember how and why they lived. They were more than four images on a television screen. They were husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, family and friends. They were Americans who believed in service and sacrifice. Many people speak wistfully of a better world, but do little about it. These four men went out and tried to make it better. And it cost them their lives.

We know what they gave us. What do we owe them? Justice for those who killed them. We owe their families our everlasting respect and gratitude. We owe them - and each other - the truth.

Madame Secretary, I understand some people - frankly in both parties -have suggested this investigation is about you. Let me assure you it is not. And let me assure you why it is not. This work is about something much more important than any single person. It is about four U.S. government workers, including our Ambassador, murdered by terrorists on foreign soil. It is about what happened before, during, and after the attacks that killed these four men. It is about what this country owes those who risk their lives to serve it. It is about the fundamental obligation of our government to tell the truth - always - to the American people. Not a single member of this Committee signed up for an investigation into you or your email system. We signed up because we wanted to honor the service and sacrifice of 4 people sent to a foreign land to represent us - who were killed - and do everything we can to prevent it from happening to others.

Our Committee has interviewed half a hundred witnesses, not a single one of them has been named Clinton until today. You were the Secretary of State for this country when our facility was attacked. So, of course this Committee is going to talk to you. You are an important witness, but you are just one important witness, among half a hundred important witnesses.

I understand you wanted to come sooner than today so let me be clear why that did not happen. You had an unusual email arrangement with yourself, which meant the State Department could not produce your emails to us.

You made exclusive use of personal email and a personal server. When you left the State Department you kept those public records to yourself for almost two years. You and your attorneys decided what to return and what to delete. Those decisions were your decisions, not ours. It was only in March of this year we learned of this email arrangement. Since we learned of your email arrangement we have interviewed dozens of witnesses, only one of whom was about your email arrangement, and that was a very short interview because he invoked his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

It was reported publicly for the first time in February 2015 by the New York Times that Clinton had used a private email account and server to conduct all government business during her time as Secretary of State. We also learned she deleted more than 50,000 emails she deemed "private business."

Ranking Member Elijah Cummings used the majority of his opening statement to defend Clinton and to accuses Republicans of a political witch hunt.

"Republicans continue to spin new conspiracy theories that are just as outlandish and inaccurate," Cummings said. "The Select Committee has spent 17 months and $4.7 million in taxpayer funds. We have held four hearings and conducted 54 interviews and depositions. Yes, we have received some new emails—from Secretary Clinton, Ambassador Stevens, and others. And yes, we have conducted some new interviews. But these documents and interviews do not show any nefarious activity. In fact, it’s just the opposite. The new information we have obtained confirms and corroborates the core facts we already knew from the eight previous investigations. They provide more detail, but they do not change the basic conclusions. It is time for Republicans to end this taxpayer-funded fishing expedition. We need to come together and shift from politics to policy."

I include Bush in that category.

I’m not sure if Sid would go quietly. I’ve heard some theories that he has been central to some of the biggest Clinton crimes.

Laughing in a stupid manner is one of the tricks of the Leftist Professor in dealing with a student who questions the Leftwing spin on an issue. It is used in a situation, where the Professor does not really have a verbal argument.

In short, it is a sign when the Leftist knows he or she is inadequate, but realizes that it will intimidate the student--who after all, is there hoping to learn from the tenured poseur.

Joe Biden used the technique to discombobulate Paul Ryan, in their 2012 Debate. Why it worked with an experienced debater like Ryan is not clear.

I agree with your comments. I do think Ryan was submarined by the moderators there.

If Ryan had used those tactics on Biden, the moderators would have slit his throat before the debate was over.

Not one of them called Biden on what he was doing.

The open borders gang is acting on the thinking that 42,000,000 illegal immigrants would eventually backfill the 42,000,000 aborted taxpayers.

Sniveling? Didn’t hear that, nor a “country” “peckerhead”. What I heard was an accomplished Federal prosecutor who successfully prosecuted FBI most wanted post office/carjacking robber J. Mark Allen, among others. The “pressure” is press generated by RINOs and he put that away quickly. He has not done “nothing” and he is not done. Unlike idiots like Issa et al.

He got his law degree in Columbia, SC Univ. of SC, became the 7th Circuit Solicitor, having left the US Attorney’s office after prosecuting/convicting Allen, and as State Solicitor prosecuted 7 death penalty cases and a raft of white collar/blue collar crime.

He knows a criminal when he sees one. I fail to understand how one could describe him as “sniveling”. He nailed mrs. hitlery to the wall with her incompetence and her marxist/grifter actions.

You are probably right about that. The indoctrination of most of the media by Leftist Academics, is one of the worst problems we have to deal with. It is not that they are bright journalists. They are, as a group, pretty dense. But they have been indoctrinated to the point that their minds close like a steel trap, when they hear anything that threatens the shibboleths of that indoctrination. They really have become a cult, the “intellectual” equivalent of the Indian Thugees, in British India.

Agree. Obamaumao and hitlery were both-— out of office contact for literally overnight. And, she knows where he was and what he was doing. Sickening, this biotch.

Beats me. It’s just about as foreign as a policy could be to me, no pun intended.

Cool story.

And after Peckerhead Gowdy got done nailing Clinton to the wall with her incompetence and her marxist/grifter actions, Mrs. Clinton walked away from said wall and continued her campaign for president, didn't she?

In fact, the practical result of Gowdy's committee is NOTHING.

NOTHING!

Not familiar withe Thugee dynamic, but I do agree with your take here.

I talk about it once in a while. The Left teaches the kids to shut down if someone talks sense that isn’t in line with the Left. Why it would have to be propaganda. Don’t listen. So they don’t.

No matter what you say, even if it makes perfect sense, they won’t listen.

I have a family member that doesn’t like the state California is in now. Thinks it’s all messed up. I mentioned that the Democrats have controlled the state legislature for the last 50-60 years, all but one sting of a year or two.

After mentioning this I asked who he thought was the cause fo the problems in the state. Answer: the Republicans

This person has a pretty sound education base too.

Shocking...

Hillary is so smug, arrogant and out of control in the hearing. Anyone can see that she is nervous, disorganized, mumbling, stumbling and reaching for answers.

The American people are watching sad they see that she is confused and not cool under pressure.

The run away manager. They have a short life in industry. Stand back and watch for managers who run to a problem and own it. List the ones who ran away from the obligation to deal with it. Next rounds of firings or layoffs, those who ran away or never showed up need to be the first to go.

Bubba, you need to read, and learn subtlety of prosecution. He is stacking the rocks up, and she is helping. Her own party is seeing this unfold. Hence Cummings who ain’t up to it. It is not nothing- and she is clearly incapable of containing the trail of lies... not in the internet era. If you are watching now, you are seeing this real time. If you want the MSM to notice, it will take a great deal. But critical decisions are being made from this. She is a criminal and either she or Blumenthal are going down, and the net result is she cannot build support among critical constituencies in the real non MSM world. Deo Vindice.

“O” needs to be investigaged as well...’where were you Mr. President?’.

Has any one got a satisfactory answer to THAT question?

We just have ONE liar covering for ANOTHER liar, here...and it doesn’t help that both are unprincipled and incompetent morons

You are smarter than that, of course. These are master grifters, the clintoons. It requires dexterity, and no sofa generals. Skilled prosecutor- the kind that the clintoons used to OWN in awwwwrkainsaws. If the problem is the GOPe pressuring then... they are pussies. She is a criminal this grifter. Deo Vindice.

While I believe that Ryan may be very co9nfused on immigration issues; he has been an articulate defender of Conservative economics. Instead of denouncing him, I would suggest the approach I have advocated for dealing with Senator Rubio--modified, of course, because of the different circumstances peculiar to Ryan, as opposed to Rubio (see Whither American Conservatism).
