Actor Anthony Mackie endorsed Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump Monday during a promotional interview with BET for his new film Our Brand Is Crisis, and was immediately vilified online for being black and embracing conservative ideas.

...

“I would 100 percent want to run Trump’s campaign. 100 percent,” Mackie said. “I mean, first that’ll be the best party ever when he won, and second, Trump’s an easy sell.

It wasn’t long before Mackie’s endorsement created a backlash on Twitter. Ira Madison, staff editor for New York Magazine, tweeted Monday:

Anthony Mackie always looks like he’d love to get called a n***** in a Quentin Tarantino movie

It was about this time back in 2007 into the primary season .. Fred Thompson was the favorite here at FR.

We had a bunch here saying that Fred Thompson was to old to be president at 65.

Me personally I don’t care their ages, it’s the double standard by those who would say that Fred Thompson is to old, but Trump is not to be president.

Sounds like he’s been on board for a while.

In the article, it mentions how he tells his nephew to ignore groupthink, how he rejects the race card, and how he is pro-traditional marriage.

Ditto.

I was planning to vote for him in my state’s primary; he quit, and I had to “settle”— IIRC, for Santorum.

Dangit, Mitt :(

Have you given any thought that the same people who said Fred was too old are the ones saying Donald is too old and that there is no double standard at all, only perfect consistency?

Yes, but we had many here on Free Republic saying that Fred Thompson was to old to be president back in 2008. So why is Donald Trump at 70 not to old ?

I don't remember the 'movement' - although I don't doubt there were comments. As you know, we get all kinds of comments here.

I'd say the big difference would be that Fred Thompson probably acted 'old', whereas Trump does not. Fred couldn't seem to make up his mind as to whether to get into the race, or not. He came across as a doddering old fool. I'd say the same if he was 50. And less than 50 - an indecisive young 'un...

The guy sounds like fun. And he’s right about any inaugural parties that Trump will throw if he wins. They’ll make homobama’s parties look like staggering crackhouse-whore zombie parties.

Actually it wasn’t that Fred was “too old”, it was that he had “no fire in the belly”

Which translated into making Fred look old, whereas Trump’s fire in the belly makes him look just right for the part.

Funny how liberalism works..if you get off the democrat plantation and think for yourself what does the left do..start spewing the N word just like I know they always do...the democrat party is the true party of racist scum

Great memory you’ve got there. That was the phrase. “No traction” was Duncan Hunter. I’m going to cringe if the old “-mentum” thing fires back up unless it’s Joe Biden, in which case it’ll be funny.

Well that Ira Madison person did it in an underhanded way by saying that Anthony Mackie seems like the kind of guy who wants to be called the N word.

Just dirty.

I profess absolutely no expertise in the matter. I only brought up the point I did to raise
the possibility that the perception of one's age, distinct from its chronological basis,
plays into how a candidate is viewed.

Yes, there was a few here back in 2008...

I remember the comments that Fred Thompson was to old, no fire in his belly.

I went back into the archives, it’s going to require a extensive search through all the threads between late summer 2007 through the primaries of 2008.

I dont care the ages of either Fred Thompson, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, that was not the point.

“I remember the comments that Fred Thompson was to old, no fire in his belly.”

He wasn’t too old. I was a Fred supporter but was disappointed when he dropped out, revealing a fireless belly.
