The usual GOPe strategy was to coalesce behind a single candidate, win the winner-take-all-primaries with a plurality, and the conservatives split the majority but get few if any delegates.
But this year, even if the GOPe coalesced behind one guy, it wouldn’t be enough.
So the GOPe doesn’t have to commit suicide — they’re already at death’s door with regard to the presidential nomination.
