This week, France's most famous weatherman was fired for being a climate change skeptic.
State-run TV France Télévisions told the media that their top meteorologist, who was suddenly absent from the nightly weather bulletins, was "on holiday."
Philippe Verdier was France 2's "Monsieur Météo," according to The Local, and his weather broadcast reached a viewing audience of 5 million. That is until he released a book detailing his repulsion to climate change hysteria. In his book, Climat Investigation, Verdier takes on climatologists and politicians who are actively plotting to convince the world that the end is near unless all nations act.
A promotional video (translated from French) introduces the premise of his book:
Every night I address five million French people to talk to you about the wind, the clouds and the sun.
And yet there is something important, very important that I haven’t been able to tell you, because it’s neither the time nor the place to do so.
We are hostage to a planetary scandal over climate change – a war machine whose aim is to keep us in fear.
The timing of his "forced holiday" couldn't be better. In December, France and President Hollande will be hosting the UN's next climate change summit. It wouldn't look too good for the state-owned France 2 to employ the antithesis to the government's agenda.
