If you only hear one side of socialism of course it sounds great. As a young person I read the 15th century opus of Thomas More called Utopia. How wonderful. But an adult took the time to show me the folly of it. We do not teach kids this stuff anymore. Communism was bad, socialism was bad. It was even illegal. Now we offend people to ask them “Are you now or have you ever been...?” questions, even when they seek a national security clearance and job.
We can’t take it for granted that the young minds will just gather the opposing arguments on their own.

That was not true of previous generations of Americans. I grew up during the Cold War in the 1950s and 60s. Communism and Socialism were dirty words. Their philosophies were a mortal threat to this nation. The Soviet Union was the evil empire. Red China under Chairman Mao was an enemy.
This period lasts in life just until they start working real jobs and see the difference between gross pay and take home pay. With so many of them underemployed/unemployed in the 0 Economy it is no wonder the "pro socialism" number is going up
Disagree. Our educational system has glossed over the threats that Communism and Socialism pose to freedom and liberty. They have made them seem benign without describing what it was like to live under such systems. The Left controls our educational system thru college. Schools have become indoctrination centers. And the MSM just reinforces those ideas that have been inculcated in our youth.
And let's face it, this country has shifted left both politically and in practice. The welfare state is increasing in scope and cost. We are mortgaging our future to keep it alive. Eventually we will have to pay the piper.

Washington Democrats force banks to make bad home loans, the Fed finally has to cover the massive over-due loans, and Democrats never held accountable to the extent they are still pushing for bad loans and the Fed keeps the prime rate low and does quantitative easing, QE(N+1)...
And isn’t the Federal Reserve supposed to be independent?...

No doubt there are loads of tax cheats and corps that use every loophole they can get.Its become an industry. Problem here is tax reform. Our system is so complicated it desperately needs simplification.
In the middle Marathon, Islamorada, Big Pine, Key Largo, you have a lot of conservatives, middle of the roaders and some libs.So its a strange county to begin with. Adding to the mix in the winter we double our 80k populations with visitors from all over the country.

Exactly when I moved here in 1970 the county was very conservative,just making the move from voting dem forever to voting conservative Republican.Than the gays moved in and it all changed.Key West has a population of 30k half are gay.
