Media and the Dems would pound the Republicans into the ground next year. They would relish the optics of the Republicans doing this for political purposes. Obama ran against Bush and it worked twice. Imaging the whole Democratic party being able to run against the Republicans on such an obviously partisan issue. The Pubbies could lose the Senate and the presidency.

Without doubting the validity of that assertion, doesn't it imply that a Demonrat president could never be impeached, let alone removed, for fear of such results?
The Senate was cowardly to hang the House out to dry when it voted to impeach Billious for his unwise & nasty dalliance with a young intern. Hyde was well aware that Clinton could have been the target of blackmail (& may well have been anyway). - I, for one, am sick & tired of both the Clintons and their danged sexual frustrations.
