Frankly, I think Turkey should have complained (if true) but stopped short of shooting down the plane. There should be other clever things you can do short of shooting down the plane.
Is that airspace so close that it is a problem avoiding it? Should Turkey have negotiated use of that space? I do not know the backstory of this. Shooting down a plane seems extreme to me.

You would think so. But since I've been looking at this whole conflict and posting stories I've found there is a time delay to what occurs to when it starts getting reported by unreliable sources on Twitter, then picked up my obscure news outlets in the Middle East and other parts of the world that are awake at that time to finally being reported in the American MSM.
Something like this though should override that natural information flow. Since I saw this being mentioned hours ago it should have percolated into the MSM by now.
NATO is not what NATO used to be. It seems all good things eventually turn bad because dummies take over who do not understand why it was created in the first place — or don’t care.
IF Turkey gets involved in a war with Russia, and they are part of NATO, then we are involved as Russia has violated their airspace several times.

No, it’s not really bad. Russia will be more careful, and if the Turks have the pilot, they will repatriate him soon. I doubt if they will even interrogate him.
