Chick-fil-A takes Manhattan as it continues to dominate nationally
FOX News ^ | October 6, 2015

Posted on 10/09/2015 11:33:04 AM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

This weekend, Chick-fil-A made headlines for the throngs of people in New York City waiting to get into its newest--and now largest--restaurant.

Hundreds of people waited in line all night at the corner of 37th Street and Sixth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan for the chance to be one of the first 100 people to win free weekly Chick-fil-A for a year.

The grand opening was also met with protesters, which included the animal and gay rights group "Collectively Free" demonstrating outside the restaurant.

But individuals waiting in line did not seem to pay much mind--they were there for the chicken.

The fast food chain with conservative values continues to bring in record profits, even during a time when many fast-food restaurants are struggling.

And with significantly fewer locations than many of its competitors, and the fact that all of its locations are closed on Sundays, Chick-fil-A’s success may be nothing short of a fast food miracle. . .

Well there you go, the reason for the long lines are right there.

Any other fast food company could get long lines if they had a gimmick like this.

Then why is the parking lot jammed full at lunch time ever day, and the drive thru line snakes out into the street?

And this one near me’s been open for years, and isn’t giving away free food.

Plus in NYC, everyone knew they were giving away only 100 gift certificates, and yet the line I saw stretched around the block.

I want to know how Chick-Fil-A gets all the best workers the fast food industry has to offer.

I agree. But it's not really a mystery. The uncivil, snarky, barbaric left wouldn't work there for $20/hour, leaving the field open for conservatives, who are the polar opposite in disposition.

This Chick Fil-A opened in Manhattan. Just a matter of time before faggies invade the place & stage a mass kiss-in while pelting customers with glitter.

Well, I'm in Pennsylvania — North of the Mason Dixon line, and we have several CFAs here. I wish we had lot more. There is an overabundance of McDonalds and Starbucks and they do nothing for me.

Even with long lines, drive thru, etc. they still get you through the process quickly. One
reason is that there aren’t a 100 different items to choose from which has to be made. Cook
the breast for sandwiches, strips, nuggets, fries and let it happen.

I want to know how Chick-Fil-A gets all the best workers the fast food industry has to offer.

All three of my daughters worked there for their first job, so I can offer an opinion as follows:

  1. They seek out genuinely nice kids. They like evidence of good grades and involvement in positive high school activity, chorus, marching band, sports, whatever.
  2. They give extra training, not just 'following Joe around.' They have classrooms, films, role playing and you don't fly solo until you pass muster. My kids actually got their first jobs in college with minimal interviews because of the Chick-Fil-A experience.
  3. They put more help on the floor than they think they'll need. You will notice that even when waiting lines stack up, they will have people walking the line to take orders so the kitchen staff can have them ready by the time you are to the front of the line. If they don't, you'll get a table placard and they bring it to you.
  4. They know their kids there are going to make it a career, generally. So they are very flexible about giving time off for school, church or family activities. Even if they just can't allow all the time off requested, they work with employees to share a shift so each gets at least part of the day off they wanted.
  5. They are trained and encouraged to look for things which need done and positively rewarded. We were there one evening when all three daughters were working and my middle girl noticed ample help behind the counter, but trash cans getting full and tables needing wiped. She asked the supervisor if she could move away from the counter and take care of the matter. Rather than getting chewed out for showing her supervisor up (as would happen in too many places), she was rewarded with a couple of food coupons for noticing and acting on something that her supervisor had missed.
  6. In short, and without even getting into the quality of food and preparation techniques, they really know how to run a pop stand!

They have high expectations of their employees and I assume spend time bringing them into their company culture. I also believe that passes on to the customers.

About a year ago, one of the kids in our group left his Ipod in the bathroom at a CFA. We went back about 20 minutes later. It was still there.

You need to get out more. There have been Chick-Fil-A’s in PA since at least the 70s. In the malls only until recently.

They do it thru local churches and the managers look to hire such. Now it doesn’t mean they won’t hire homosexuals or unsaved people but the emphasis is on rejecting any but top notch folks. I know in my area I can walk in and Christian music is playing over the loud speakers. They hire thru the religious organizations when they come inrecommended by pastors and such.

“I want to know how Chick-Fil-A gets all the best workers the fast food industry has to offer. “

That’s easy: No PC HR departments. To be considered a candidate must show moral standing. Good grades, decent presentation, etc. The interview is a real interview and not just “Can you show up?” type questions. They usually require multiple interviews as well. Being selective has greatly benefitted CFA.

Wait in long lines all night for chicken?

Other than the fact that you couldn’t pay me to eat chicken, even if I liked eating that foul fowl, I durn sure wouldn’t wait in a line all night for it.

That’s really simple. You hire managers who are smart, you have a listed protocol of what is and isn’t acceptable, and you run a tight ship.

I suspect that Chick-Fil-A pays their managers more and expects more out of them.

I worked in restaurants for 15 years, and restaurants that are a mess are a result of laziness. You have to run a restaurant kitchen at white-glove cleanliness levels similar to a hospital or military barracks, otherwise you will have waste, insect and rodent infestation, and workers who don’t give a damn.

Too often, especially in fast foods, people at the top have taken the easy way out and dumbed things down so that they don’t have to take the time to train people. they’ve automated things to a degree where no skill is required, and because of that, they pay the lowest wages they can manage to pay, and they get exactly what they pay for.

What’s wrong with you that you’re too good to eat chicken?

Eggs are a marvel in the kitchen.

Chicken meat is fantastic if prepared well.

Chickens in your yard will cut down on insect pests.
