NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A city in South Carolina approved a $6.5 million settlement Thursday with the family of an unarmed black man shot to death earlier this year by a white police officer.
The North Charleston City Council approved the settlement by a 10-0 vote, and members of Walter Scott’s family were on hand when it was announced.

Sometimes the action is so egregious that it can’t be contained within the state judiciary, when it’s likely to go Federal all caps are off.
The video was so damning. The cop should be found guilty of first degree stupidity and 2nd degree murder.
No question that the video was bad. They knew who he was and could have been picked up at a later time.
City got off cheap. Having murderous cops should be more expensive to the point they clean up their police.
Is South Carolina also in a flooded state of emergency?
If so Lindsey Graham should quit his ‘campaign’ and go home to help the voters get through this natural disaster.

6.5 Million is just. Perhaps not enough. Clearly murder on the part of the police officer. And the actions of a police officer are the responsibility of the state.
They immediately began the selection process for the next member of the family to be shot with the aim of an even bigger payday.

The innocent victims and families received NOTHING.
The attackers ? Not so much as a traffic ticket.
If they did this in Afghanistan or Iraq, the entire Second Armored Division would still be in confinement.

His family didn’t win anything here, they lost their brother, uncle, father or whatever. There is no life worth any amount of money and I find the attitude that “the family won the lottery” repulsive.
I don’t know why except to promote peace in the community that there was any blood money paid but blood money is a common practice all over the world.
This guy had a life, maybe he was a dead beat dad but the penalty for being a deadbeat dad is not death.
This was a bad shoot clear and simple, the stupid cop that did it deserves whatever they give him. He should get his 30 years in prison and perhaps a few other cops will get the message.
